We’ve had the pleasure of working with so many great local bands over the years; it’s almost impossible to list them all. Here are a few of our favorites, bands, groups, record stores, radio stations, clubs, independent labels, and individuals. Lucky So Far, Rude Rock Family, Supreme Commander, the Daycare Swindlers, Eclysio, the Conflicted, So Damn Thirst, Locals Only, AYERN, Sleep Vivid.
Narcoma has gone through numerous reincarnations since the company’s inception in 2005. The earliest incarnations of the company was a two man promotional group dedicated to providing young artists the opportunity to share their work with one anther and the local community. This venture failed due to the lack of commitment on the part of many individuals involved, and disagreements among the organizers as to the best way to move forward with the project. The following reincarnation of the company failed for similar reasons. In the spring of 2006 the company was reformed yet again under the name in which it would eventually produce its first full-length record under Narcoma Records. The third reincarnation was originally founded as co-operative of young local musicians with the purpose of providing local artists with a place to record their music, and the opportunity to share their work with a larger audience. The co-operative as it was formed eventually disbanded, however the name and idea of the label would later give birth to a project far beyond the expectations of it’s original founders.
In March 2006 Narcoma teamed up with Dan Bales to begin planning a show, which was to be a turning point in the company’s history. One year after the company’s inception Narcoma produced its fifth concert with local punk legends the Daycare Swindlers. The show was an astonishing success. With a staggering five hundred attends making it one of the largest underground punk shows in the area’s history. Fallowing the Daycare Swindlers Reunion Show Narcoma began negotiations with Lucky So Far. Recording on the bands newest record Fashionista; recording began six months later. In 2007 Narcoma teamed up with the Culpeper Rock Academy in an effort once again to help provide a safe, supportive environment for young people to learn, create, and show case their music. In under a year attendance at the Rock Academy’s concert went from roughly 150 people to over 700.
Three years after it’s initial inception in 2005 Narcoma continues to be committed to providing young artists with the opportunity to share their work, with one anther, and the local community, providing local artists with a place to record their music, and the opportunity to share their work with a larger audience.
The company is now looking forward to the release of Fashionista, the launch of its first line of merchandise, and many more records, concerts, and other projects, which are still in the making.
