All over the world, music fans have a variety of tastes. But true hip-hop heads prefer their tunes in one flavor – nasty. Whether you can’t find a job and are “tired of being broke,” feel antagonized or “hated on,” or just in the mood to tell a special someone, “I like you,” Nasty probably has a track that you can relate to. This young phenomenon got into rap at an early age and his passion for music has stuck with him ever since.....Centuries ago, Greece provided the pages of history with great playwrights like Sophocles and profound poets like Homer. Fast forward to May 1, 1985. The Mediterranean country gave the world yet another artistic gift. On that day, in a hospital near downtown Athens, Angela Maniatakis gave birth to her first-born son - Dennis. Six months later, the Maniatakis family packed their bags and boarded an airplane with flight coordinates set for Chicago.....In the early 90s, tracks from hip-hop pioneers like Snoop Doggy Dogg and Nas filled the airwaves. Young Dennis wasn’t familiar with names and details. He didn’t follow up on trends like East coast, West coast beef nor did he really care about them. All he knew was that he could bob his head to the noise reverberating from his radio. Dennis Maniatakis exposed himself to hip-hop and developed a taste for its sound. That sound stuck with him and still resides in his mind, heart, and soul.....Dennis’s love for hip-hop led him to write his first verse in 1997. While visiting family in Michigan, the young emcee transcribed his thoughts on a piece of scrap paper. And it definitely wasn’t the last time. In 1999, Dennis started rapping under the name “Nasty Criminal” because violent imagery was abound in his earlier work. He’d cover “nasty” subjects and rhyme about them in a manner only twisted, demented “criminals” could understand. Not long after, he shortened his name to, simply, Nasty. Although some will argue that even though the “criminal” left his name, it never left his lyrics....After experimenting with various recording programs, Nasty learned what he needed to do in order to record an album. He didn’t waste any time in putting out his self-titled debut which he released independently in 2002 Before Nasty was scheduled to record, he came down with a harsh cold. Instead of waiting – and delaying the recording of his album – he went ahead and chose studio time over rest and relaxation. That same dedication drove Nasty to constantly promote. Many of his fans first found out about him through word of mouse.....In 2005, Nasty moved in with some relatives in Michigan. Ironically, the same relatives in whose house he wrote his very first rhymes in. Not wasting any time, he recorded two separate albums that year: The Reserection and What’s Mah Name? Locals in the Ypsilanti area soon familiarized themselves with classic Nasty hits like “Never Leave Me” and “The Industry (Off Me).”....Expanding his international repertoire, Nasty moved back to Greece in 2006 and began performing live. During this time, he also tried his hand at producing instrumentals. The hours Nasty spent programming, tweaking, and recording didn’t go to waste; he made a few appearances on national Greek television, the first of which featured him performing his hit single, “Tired of Being Broke” in 2007. Nasty’s televised performances coupled with Internet promotion greatly increased his popularity.
