Singer, songwriter, musician, Natalie Darkes began her musical journey in her early teens playing in several PA based bands. Even at an early age, "there was something about Natalie".
Beginning with Araby, Natalie was the lead singer and began to strike chords. From Araby to Sage to Brat, Natalie was becoming known as the energetic singer who would jump off stage in the middle of a song and still keep singing! She was also known to belt out a Led Zepplin tune in the middle of a set, hitting every note. Natalie was the "preppy punker" who loved to get the crowd going, at times running through the audience with the microphone encouraging everyone to get up and dance!
From Brat, Natalie formed the highly successful band The Avengers. Not only were The Avengers one of Pennsylvania, New York & New Jersey's most popular bands, their fan base was growing. Selling out clubs and continual touring brought The Avengers alot of attention in the music industry. Their energy and talent was unmatched! As fate would have it, at the height of their careers, the band dissolved to focus on their families. Though they got back together for several reunion shows, the band members began working on individual and independent projects.
Natalie briefly joined Girls Club then formed the band Darkes, using pick up players and experimenting with various musical influences. Getting back to her roots with a focus on songwriting, Natalie decided to head out on the road. Natalie went to Nashville to record her first solo cd, The Nashville Sessions.
Natalie's second cd, simply titled Darkes, gave her a chance to record with several musicians who played in the band Darkes.
On Natalie's third cd Moonlight, she rerecorded several songs that were signature in her live shows, such as the acclaimed Love To Laugh and her version of Somebody To Love, which became a crowd favorite.
Natalie has opened for acts such as Cris Williamson, Tret Fure & Betty. She was the guitar player in the musical Godspell. And she is currently the guitar player for the healing music of the band 312.
Natalie has collaborated on many projects including a song and video written & produced for TV to benefit cancer. The song & video was submitted for EMMY nomination in 2007 & is being submitted again this year.
Natalie is also co-writer of the critically acclaimed song Peace Tonight which is presently being used to encourage peace. The Global Chorus campaign was founded by Natalie & co-writer Angela Byrd and is a "quest to form a universal choir". The song is an integral part of the Global Peace benefit Concert to be held in Miami of this year. Though touring is at a minimum, Natalie continues to grow as a musician and songwriter. Natalie plays festivals, pride festivals and benefits, performs solo as well as with other musicians. Her focus is writing & co-writing as well as working on new material for a forthcoming EP.
Natalie Darkes's music and creative spirit continues to evolve and inspire!
