May/08- "Let the Rain" my newest single, produced by Lynn Miles is in its final mastering stage. I will post it when I get it. Recording for my second full-length record is slated to begin in early September.
It snowed on April 29th. (?@)*($%@&^!!). They say this builds character.
Summer will see a smattering of solo gigs but also will be harmonizing with the incredibly talented Kim Beggs (www.kimbeggs.com) spreading her unique brand of old-time country/bluegrass bramble to new horizons. Filmmaking continues- stay tuned for a short doc on the Groupo Tortuguero Pescadero that I shot while traveling in Baja California last January- highlighting a one-woman initiative to save sea turtles in her region.

In Jan-Feb,there were 10 consecutive days of -45 degree 'brass-monkey' weather. I watched my woodpile dwindle, and then opted to escape by being a vet assistant for the Yukon Quest, a 1000 mile sled-dog race from Fairbanks, Alaska to Whitehorse. Catapulted from there to Memphis to host the Yukon Roots Music Showcase room at the North American Folk Alliance, which featured fabulous Yukoners Kim Beggs, Gordie Tentrees, and Kim Barlow, together with a stellar array of honourary Yukoners: Maria Dunn, Rose Cousins, John Wort Hannam, Stephen Fearing, Catherine McClellan, Cara Luft, David Myles, Joel Plaskett, Bill Bourne and Madagascar Slim. Check out these great artists!
Fall '07 included a trip to the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance, highlights of this trip included a podcast gig at Acoustic Long Island, playing at the 68th & Jay bar in Brooklyn, a great review in Acoustic Live New York, and then navigating a !@)*$*&@%^&!! rental car around NYC. geez what's a toll bridge? (A reminder that there are all of 4 traffic lights in Whitehorse.)
Summer '07 was gorgeous in the Yukon- Highlights included singing with Kim Beggs at the Kluane Mountain Bluegrass Festival, and Dawson City Music Festival, preceded a Yukon River canoe trip with fellow singer-songwriters Kim Beggs, Kate Weekes, Kim Barlow.
Kim Beggs organized a concert at historic Fort Selkirk, ancestral settlement of Selkirk First Nation. The concert was recorded by CBC and was attended only by those who could paddle to the site as there is no road access on that side of the Yukon river.
Late summer meandering happened in Ontario, Quebec and West Virginia, taking in Old Time/Vocal Week at Augusta (Elkins, WV) . Highly recommended for anyone interested in Appalachian music and folklore. Have since become obcessed with clawhammer banjo- bought myself a Lyon and Healy from the 1890s- and have named her Molly after my banjo teacher. Made a few tunes already.
HOpe you enjoy my little aural vignettes. Short films to be posted soooooooon.

"Edelson's songs might be letters home, or postcards from a far-off place. They're certainly heartfelt and beautifully made; road-tested around kitchen tables and campfires, they speak strongly of love, friendship, place, and, especially, the heart" - Alexander Varty, Georgia Straight (Vancouver)

Influenced by traditional and contemporary folk/roots resonances, Natalie Edelson seamlessly meshes the human and physical extremes of the Yukon landscape. Oscillating from the mundane to the whimsical through all points in between, her songs poignantly distill the off-the-grid experiences shared by urban refugees. Richly textured melodies envelop stark imagery. The result particularly satisfies those with a craving for something bittersweet.
Born in Ottawa and politicized in Montreal, Natalie Edelson made the Yukon her home in 1991. A musical journey that began with flute and piano has since gravitated towards acoustic and electric guitar. Her fluid and innovative fingerstyle guitarwork is reminiscent of rhythm and melody piano-hands. Performing solo or with accompaniment, Natalie Edelson creates and maintains a unique intimacy with her riveted audience.
Natalie Edelson's debut self-released CD, Mayfly Days, is available for purchase at www.mymusic.com and at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/edelson

"A strong, distinctive voice with well-written material and perfect complimenting background music and audio. Good to know such talent exists in the Yukon" -Eddie Russell, The Country Eastern/Outlaw for Peace Radio Columbus, Texas

"Natalie Edelson's Mayfly Days is like solar power: it plays 'til the sun goes down (....) Edelson uses the word "incandescence" to describe the past in Into Deep Blue, the first song on her album Mayfly Days. I would go further and derive the word "incandescent" to describe the whole CD" -Bill Polonsky, What's Up Yukon

"Natalie Edelson tells smack-on intuitive stories with a caressing groove. They're where you know you've landed. Into Deep Blue is one to blast from the car stereo while cruising hometown back alleys with only your very best buds. - Brenda Barnes, Past Producer, Frostbite Music Festival
****************************************************************
" Edelson takes listeners on an upbeat, poetic, political journey, with incredible, crystalline vocals and groovy instrumentation." -Genesee Keevil, Yukon News

I do like "Let The Rain" - really good. Nathalie is that right you maybe be coming to this little isle? Wow! Great stuff! You have a good thing going there in the Yukon it seems to me : these Heather Loewen tracks, on her own, and with her band "The Daily Special" are brilliant too. Watch out world : The Yukon Troubadours - the lyric poets - are coming and spreading the message - great!!!
