NATANAEL was formed in 1991, in Czestochowa, Poland, when the brothers Konrad and Pawel Wlodarz, founders of the band, began experimenting with roots reggae music. Yet, when the energy propelling the band’s initial period of success was spent after a few years of stringent performances and only too many changes in the band’s line-up, the musicians eventually resolved to suspend their activity.
In 1999, however, their paths crossed again: the idea of the revival of NATANAEL soon ripened and yielded tangible fruit. Its musicians, now more experienced and artistically mature, worked together toward the band’s successful come-back to Polish and international stages and studios. The refreshed lineup brought in a more self-conscious vision of the band’s music: the sound of NATANAEL has become heavier tinged with elements characteristic for rock. The lyrics underwent a transformation as well: the once dominating subjective ME of the NATANAEL of old gave way to the intersubjective voice of the WE/YOU. The invisible, yet very strong relationship between the singer/performer and his audience has become central to the philosophy of the band.

At the beginning of 2006 NATANAEL’S line-up radically changed and the headquarters of the band were moved to Katowice, Silesia. The musicians of the NATANAEL of today, all mature performers of almost two decades of stage experience each, frequently participate in projects by other popular Polish groups playing different kinds of music (e.g. 4 Pokoje Projekt (hip-hop); Mleko (progresive rock); Cocotier (flamenco, jazz, classical music, folk, ECM); Vibra Lux (trip-hop). Owing to the infusion of their fresh ideas, the music of NATANAEL has evolved a step further. Still, even though the sound of the band rests upon the dynamics of the combination of a number of influences, its unique characteristics have remained unchanged: NATANAEL’S music, characteristically, continues to charm its audiences with its distinctive rhythm and pulse.

NATANAEL actively cooperates (or cooperated) with a number of Polish and international top performers, such as 'MUMIO', Tymon Tymanski, Andrzej Skolik, Stealpot, Mietall Walus, Andrzej "e-moll" Kowalczyk, Wlosy Marcina Kydrynskiego, Maciej Zembaty, Marek Koscikiewicz, Przemyski Chór Gospel, Purple House, Saltimbanco-italiano, Karolina Glazer, Kamil Baranski, Klaudiusz Klosek, David Daniel, Ruth Lynh, or Caren Gibbon.

The major focus of the group, however, are live concerts, whose central aim is to create an atmosphere allowing the musicians to establish a unique rapport with their audiences. Faithful to their philosophy, over the recent years NATANAEL has given in excess of 200 concerts all around Poland.
