"Most of the time lyrics come to me while I'm just about to fall asleep or really late at night...I sometimes even have to get up half asleep and try to jot them down in the dark because if I don't, I know that by morning, I would have no recollection and would regret not writing it down or even roughly recording the melody because for me I think that's when I get my best ideas for songwriting. That's when I'm most relaxed! I have countless scribbles and melodic ideas that I have roughly jotted down or recorded, it's just a matter of getting some time to sift through and work on all of it..."
Western Australian born, 21 year old, singer songwriter Natasha Mousuff began singing from as young as she can remember. She grew up singing and playing the flute at Church. Natasha first gave her sound to her country when she entered Austereo's exclusive "Search for a Rumba Star" radio competition, a competition with over thousands of entrants striving to earn their place performing on a stage in front of a crowd of twenty thousand people, which would be also broadcasted live on air and televised nationally on the Channel 7 network. After a series of nerve-racking impromptu live on-air performances, singing for a panel of judges, a slow elimination process to a final 10 and 85 000 votes from the listening public, 16 year old Natasha won that place and performed an original song of hers titled "What you Want" featuring Bsyde. She shared the same stage as International chart toppers Pink, Shaggy, Toya and The Sugababes to name a few, attracting the newspapers and magazines such as 'The West Australian', 'The Sunday Times', 'Community News', 'The Weekend Examiner', 'X-Press' and 'Inside' magazine. It was after this that through the 92.9fm's airwaves came Natasha's song reaching No..3 on the Top 30 Countdown and remained in the Top 30 for 3 months.
Natasha names her influences from artists such as Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, Brandy, Boyz II Men, Anthony Hamilton, John Legend, Jill Scott, Angie Stone, Alecia Keys, D'Angelo, Musiq, Erykah Badu, Eric Benet, Faith Evans, to artists like Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and old Motown artists to name a few (the list is endless)! "There is so much that I listen to, I like to look back into the roots of where RnB grew from and hear where my favourites from the present are coming from. I draw a great deal of inspiration from the musicians that I am around often and I also listen to other styles and music from other countries, because the more I listen to, the more I can grow as a singer and develop a sound of my own".
In September 2005, Natasha was given the opportunity by On Point Promotions to be the support act for one of her favourite R&B groups Boyz II Men, a huge concert that sold out two shows at the Burswood Theatre in Western Australia, which was a great opportunity for Natasha to showcase her songs to her home town and perform and meet her vocal mentors - an experience she could only dream of. Following this concert she has performed at 'Playaz Ball', Perth's biggest RnB club event which occurs on public holidays and sells out to a great number of over 18s, making her performance another great opportunity to get her music out to her main target audience.
Natasha was also the support act for a 15 show sold out tour (OPP/Showtime touring), throughout the month of February 2007, around New Zealand and Australia with BoyzIIMen and K-ci & JoJo, singing original material including her single "Come Into My Life".
Radio Station Nova chose Natasha's song "Come Into My Life" to be played Australiawide for their Unsigned Artist Promotion and have also placed the single on itunes where it is exclusively available for download now. Her single is also gaining airplay on Austereo stations Australiawide (Oz made), Groove FM (Perth), The Edge (Sydney), Niv FM (New Zealand) and other international stations.
Natasha has also performed as a the opening artist for US R&B Singer Joe (September 07), BoyzIIMen once again (June 08) and Montell Jordan (December 08) and has performed at Official Afterparties for Justin Timberlake (November 07) and Rihanna and Chris Brown (November 08).
