Trailer for my recent short film, "A Starchy World":
Right, so I'm a filmmaker and a musician. I've never been paid for doing either, but hopefully that'll change someday. I'm finishing up my MFA in film production and will soon have my thesis film under my belt. I'm also doing the music for said thesis film, which will allow me to skip the annoying process of attempting to beg for festival rights from bands and musicians.
After that, who knows? Perhaps some rich producer will see my work and fly me away to a land where large sums of money flow like rivers and directors don't have to worry about where the grip truck is being parked. Until then, I guess I'll just keep making movies out of my own (empty) pocket.
Did I mention that it's really awesome to be entering a job market with insane competition and absolutely no guarantee of any kind of success? For a guy who doesn't like surprises, it sure is strange that film making ended up being my 1 passion in life. Perhaps the God of Luck will grant me one wish: I'd really like to pay off my debt before I'm 92.
And now for some of my favorite films:
Being There, Eyes Wide Shut, Funny Games, Fight Club, Tokyo Story, The Piano Teacher, The American Astronaut, Alien, Hiroshima Mon Amour, The Godfather Part II, Once Upon a Time in America, Lord of the Rings (yes, all three), Dancer in the Dark, Raise the Red Lantern, Network, Mona Lisa, The Sweet Hereafter, The Silence of the Lambs, The Matrix, Seconds, 12 Monkeys, The Shining, Contact, House of Sand and Fog, 8 1/2, The Conversation, The Passion of Joan of Arc, The Deer Hunter, On the Waterfront, The Terminator (first two), Children of Men, Andrei Rublev, Halloween, The Seventh Continent, and others.
Hey Nathaniel, I'm impressed with the soundtrack cuts you did here. Thanks for striking up a friendship with me here on myspace. Please accept this picture of Doug Henning as a token of my appreciation. -Lee BTW-David and Byron have the latest CD, you'll probably be getting a copy from them shortly.
Hey ass, how's it going? I'm back from Hawaii, mom and dad leave today. Hey, make sure to call mom sometime soon.....they were all out of sorts that you didn't call all week (although I tried to explain that when their on vacation we don't think about it - but you know how they are). Anyway, just a heads up to call ASAP to just say "hello". Love ya bro!
I just sent you an email.....but I WILL be able to go to your graduation, my boss gave me that Friday off. I'll give you more info when I purchase my tickets.
