hi, am a citizen of this big mad world, married to a shy though very talented musician [guitar], living on the edge of our realm... 60N to be more acurate ...Shetland! owe my adventurous life journey to Kate Bush, as my catalyst. David's a big fan too ;-)))) Shetland is a wonderful world - a group of about a hundred islands bathing in both North Atlantic and North Sea... now we're talking north! on the same latitude as Bergen [Norway], Anchorage [Alaska], Helsinki [Finland] and St Petersburg [Russia] - though still 20 degrees south of the Arctic Circle! It is a windswept world, with very few trees, one town [Lerwick], and some very spectacular coastal scenery... Over a million birds... And a very strong Norse [Viking] heritage...In summer we enjoy up to 19 hours of light. winter is a different picture... Much darker, though with our magnificent "mirry dancers", or aurora borealis. Shetland's a paradise for nature lovers, artists and writers. Music plays a very important part both in Shetland and in our lives. Music is very inspiring, and sometimes reflected in my own writing. We are blessed with many musical worlds... Also, we are spoilt with some fantastic annual festivals, such as the Shetland Folk,[we have notably hosted bands from Canada, America, Ireland, Spain, Scotland...]; Book & Film, Fiddle & Accordion... Even a Fire one, "Up-Helly-Aa" in which over a thousand torches parade through Old Lerwick streets in the midst of deep winter... What ways to celebrate island life and its connections with the world? What brought our souls here? ...Our wish to escape from it all and our will to live a more humane life! Now, listening back to Kate Bush's "Nocturn" track, it all makes sense!!! We really go "panoramic"! ....
