Nathan Daems Quintet started in Ghent in september 2007. In the beginning they did several gigs in pubs & cafés. Later on they started doing more & more jazz clubs, they played on the mainstage of the "Gentse Feesten" and on the festival "Jazz Middelburg", just before the great tenorist Archie Shepp's group! In july 2010 they won the famous contest "Jong jazztalent Gent". Which means that in 2011-2012 they will play on the Gent Jazz Festival, Jazz Maastricht, Jazz Dinant Nights and a Jazzlab tour around Flanders.
Nathan Daems writes particular music in a very personal way, mainly modal stuff with influences from every corner you can imagine (Indian classical music, gipsy music from the Balkans, Oriëntal music, free jazz,...)
Bart Vervaeck, Bas Gommeren, Fulco Ottervanger, Simon Segers and Nathan Daems are all graduated from the conservatory of Ghent. They studied with Hans Van Oost (guitar), Arnout Gerritse and Teun Verbruggen (drums) and Bart Defoort (Sax), Eric Vermeulen (piano) & Stefan Lievestro (double bass).

Wel, op het podium was het geweldig, maar heb ik weinig danspasjes gezien. Er was ook een heel leuk lindy hop feestje, maar daar zag ik toch ook maar weinig voetjes bewegen.. :)

de Gentse Feesten komen er snel aan en ook dit kan ik niet aan jullie laten voorbijgaan. Ik speel 5 dagen in zaal "Minnemeers" in Gent van zaterdag 18 juli TEMdonderdag 23 juli (uitgezonderd dinsdag 21 juli), telkens om 21.30.
Hey Nathan, tof da je do zo leuk vond. Is van TheLittleSorrySelfYouAre, jammerlijk genoeg vorig jaar ook gestopt. COEM is dan helemaal iets anders dan wij maakten, maar ook super om naar te luisteren, zeker die blazers geven daar een toffe touch aan.
Ben ook superbenieuwd om je eigen nummers met' quintet live te horen. Ik kom zeker is af tijdens de Gentse Feesten. Kvind ze echt super.

The Taraf de Haïdouks - the name literally translates as "band of honourable brigands" - are a bunch of extraordinary and colourful characters, who have managed to convince the audiences of the biggest World Music festivals. "Their wild energy is the essence of gypsy music ... their set seemed like the bubbling source of 20th century rhythm ... they spun out cadences that recalled bebop, salsa, and the polyrhythms of Zimbabwe and Nigeria" (The New York Times), "the band that's wowing London" (The Evening Standard, 7 June 2001) through their rhythmically complex songs with grace, easy camaraderie and sense of mischief wins over everybody in concerts.
Along with these ambitious compositions one will rediscover with great pleasure the fantastic atmosphere of a Taraf de Haïdouks live performance in a collection of previously-unrecorded pieces featuring the various singers and soloists in top form and particularly galvanized by the importance of the event. These were indeed the band's first ever concerts in the Romanian capital; after ten years of international success the Taraf were still not recognized in their own country (maybe because they were perceived as Gypsies rather than as musicians).

dat klinkt hier fantastisch. Ik zie dat je bij het YJO bent binnen geraakt, dat zal wel leuk worden. Spijtig genoeg zit ik er niet bij, ik moest de auditie afzeggen wegens problemen met m'n hand.
