Michigan has a lot of trees. I guess that fact helped my music career. When I was 13 I raked a lot of leaves one fall. I was trying to save up enough money to get something I really wanted. At that age most of my friends were saving up money to buy a video game console or even start saving for a car. I spent all the cash I earned that fall on a keyboard workstation with a five track sequencer. I had been playing piano since I was five and I really wanted to start making my own music. I spent the following winter glued to the thing. I tried to work out keyboard parts to my favorite songs and began writing and recording riffs and songs.
The going was slow at first but spending hours a day in your basement playing along with your favorite records really pays off. I spent my first few weeks of college wandering around with a banjo trying to meet people to jam with. I also took jazz piano and music theory courses there and and eventually started playing in bands for a little extra cash on the weekend.
So far I've been lucky enough to play with such bands as The Car Pets, The Gruv Unit, Ultraviolet Hippopotamus, Peter Keller, Benjamin Riley, and Garganta. I've recorded albums with The Car Pets, Ultraviolet Hippopotamus, and Peter Keller. I've also had the honor of sharing bills with the likes of Garaj Mahal, Parliament Funkadelic, Railroad Earth, Bela Fleck, Greensky Bluegrass, Particle, Leftover Salmon, Tea Leaf Green, Mickey Hart, Charlie Hunter, Karl Denson Anthony Smith and Four Finger Five, Sprout, Ivan Neville, The Ragbirds, Melvin Seals, Seth Bernard and Daisy May, Buckethead, The Macpodz, New Monsoon, and plenty of other great bands.
I currently live in Grand Rapids, MI with my dog Django. I play with Benjamin Riley and in a fusion project with my good friend Jeff Lomdon. I just started making my own electronica music. Check out my new track Cosmic Crawl. I enjoy sitting in with others when time permits. I teach piano, guitar, banjo, mandolin, and music theory so feel free to hit me up w/ a message if you're interested. I'm also always looking for work so hit me up if you want me to play on your album or you just want to jam sometime.
