After touring for two years in support of his pop rock debut, ‘Pocket Change’, Nathan Temby is back with a little project called ‘late night piano bar’.
“The story behind this CD is that I really wanted to put out a cabaret-style work between "Pocket Change" and the next all original CD. I have been doing a lot of piano-bar type shows lately, though not Broadway. I decided that what I really wanted was to release something purely acoustic that reflected the style of a piano bar. The songs I chose are songs I've loved from musicals and songs I've performed over the years. I also wanted to release two songs from the musical I am working on so that people could get a feel for it.
“‘December’ was a song I recorded a demo of six years ago which was sold as part of a holiday sampler that is now no longer available. I have re-recorded it since I think it fits the cabaret style, not to mention that the CD is coming out during the holidays.
"’I Will Still Be Here’ is a song I wrote seven or eight years ago when I first moved to San Francisco. It wasn't a b-side for ‘Pocket Change’, as it was never recorded during that process, but I did have a demo I recorded when I first wrote it. It seemed to really work in the context of this CD, so I recorded it added it to the mix.
“I also knew that sometime this fall I would be playing on board a cruise ship as part of the piano bar, so it all just seemed like the right thing to do. This CD is a very personal little project that I hope you all will love!
This year sees Nathan continuing a very busy and very full performing schedule! Currently, Nathan is playing piano bar shows on Holland America Cruise lines. He is slated to play almost 300 dates by the end of 2009 on the ships alone and is also scheduling dates inbetween to perform on land. He just landed a feature on Sonicbids.com for being one of their top-booked artists recently and hopes to eventually take his talents to the UK, Asia, and Australia.
"A Simple Man", a new musical featuring a score by Nathan, just had it's world premiere reading Off-Broadway on June 13, 2009. Nathan is currently on Holland America performing his piano bar show seven nights a week through the end of the summer.
