About me: My interest is in ending the two-party system. Creating multi-party elections that are publicly funded. Because the power in a democracy should rest in the hands of the people, not in corporations, PACs & special interest.
"In a Democracy there is no right not to be offended. Anyone ought to be free to say whatever they like. If someone says things that are offensive, gratuitous and stupid, one has to assume there will be others able to demonstrate that what someone said was offensive, gratuitous and stupid." --Sabina Guzzanti
This week, the US Senate is taking its tentative first steps towards establishing an independent commission into Bush’s War on Terror -- an open investigation into torture, detention, wiretapping and illegal transfers to secret prisons across the globe. This is a major development, but as expected there are very nervous and powerful interests who want to bury it. But without a massive global and US show of support, champion US Senators may not rally the numbers needed to have this commission established. Sign the petition -- which will be presented to the Senate Judiciary Committee before they make their decision this week -- and help get an inquiry with real teeth over the line: http://www. avaaz. org/en/end_the_war_on_terror
World Can't Wait joined many other groups in calling for a special prosecutor to bring indictments against the Bush regime, particularly for the torture state they created. You can see the list growing at prosecutebushcheney. org.

Tell Attorney General Holder: Karl Rove must testify. On February 23, Karl Rove was supposed to testify before the House Judiciary Committee in accordance with a Congressional subpoena. But Rove didn't show up. Again. Rove didn't show up last year when he was ordered to testify, because his old friend President Bush said that Rove's testimony was protected by executive privilege. Now that Bush is no longer in office, we may finally have an opportunity to learn the truth about his alleged misdeeds, from authorizing voter suppression tactics to orchestrating the arrest of Alabama Governor Don Siegelman. But even though we have a new president, Karl Rove is still acting like he's entitled to all the privileges that came with his old job. I just took action to tell Attorney General Eric Holder to compel Karl Rove to comply with the subpoena. I hope you will, too. Please have a look and take action.
We may soon be seeing one of history's greatest examples of adding insult to injury. For eight years, we have been forced to sit by helplessly as President George W. Bush and top members of his administration eviscerated the Constitution, broke federal laws, and defied the will of Congress.
Now, President Bush is poised to give each and every one of his accomplices; from Dick Cheney to Karl Rove to Alberto Gonzales; a full pardon, ensuring that they will never receive the punishments they deserve for their activities.
Worse, Bush may issue a preemptive "blanket" pardon, covering all officials within his administration without disclosing either the names of the officials involved or the crimes for which they are being absolved. If this kind of secretive pardon seems wrong to you, please take a moment and send an email to your representatives in Congress immediately:
Wall Street Bailout: The nine banks about to receive $125 billion, courtesy of Phase I of The Bailout Plan, reserved $108 billion during the first nine months of 2008 in order to pay for compensation and bonuses. The no-strings-attached money is going to line the pockets of Wall Street execs unless Congress starts reining in Wall Street's "anything goes" approach. http://www. thepetitionsite. com/takeaction/290011652?z00m=17781021
Bush signed unconstitutional "power grab" Presidential Directives NSPD51 and HSPD20, giving him full-dictatorial powers in the event of a loosely defined catastrophic emergency.
The directives define catastrophic emergency as any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government function.
It also states, "The President shall lead the activities of the Federal Government for ensuring constitutional government." In other words, the president gave himself the sole power and duty to interpret the constitution anyway he chooses, and neither Congress nor the public shall be allowed to debate or disagree on such matters.
The New York Times exposed a secret Pentagon campaign to infiltrate the media with pro-war propaganda.
The scheme reaches all the way to the Bush White House, where top officials recruited dozens of "military analysts" to spread favorable views of the war via every major news channel -- without revealing they were working from Pentagon scripts and often lobbying for major military contractors.
Spreading "covert propaganda" is illegal under federal law. Congress must investigate these military pundits and their ties to the Bush administration, defense contractors and our national news media.
Take a stand for Social Security. The Bush plan would cut benefits and privatize Social Security which would gut a sound program and cost trillions of dollars of debt. Sign the petition to Congress opposing Social Security privatization. Tell your Senators and Representative:
