About me: Founded in 1970, the Native American Rights Fund (NARF) is the oldest and largest nonprofit law firm dedicated to asserting and defending the rights of Indian tribes, organizations and individuals nationwide.
For more than 36 years NARF attorney's led by Executive Director John Echohawk (Pawnee) have served as pioneers in Federal Indian Law and been on the frontlines defending the rights of Native peoples and fighting to hold the U.S. government accountable for its responsibilities to all Native peoples. NARF is unique in that it only takes on cases of major and national significance that will ultimately serve to strengthen the rights of all Indian peoples. NARF specializes in taking on cases for those tribes and Indian organizations who do not have the financial means to acquire legal representation. NARF has proudly represented more 250 tribes in its time of service.
NARF’s legal, policy, and public education work is concentrated in five key areas: the preservation of tribal existence; the protection of tribal natural resources; the promotion of Native American human rights; the accountability of governments to Native Americans; and the development of Indian law and educating the public about Indian rights, laws, and issues.
