The Native Sons formed in September of 2006 two weeks prior to their first radio performance on wrnr's Damien’s Diner with legendary rock Dj Damien Einstein. The line up at that time consisted of Joshua Dixon on guitar, Julian Stamerro on bass, and Matt Jacobs on percussion.
A few weeks later they went on to perform they're first show case With K.O.E. at the Full Moon Saloon in Baltimore. After enjoying the spot light for five songs, it was clear they needed more material. So they hit the wood shed, shredding out song after song keeping only the ones that didn't fall off the wall like a poorly thrown dart.
With their chops refined and the addition of a guest performer Peter Alpert on keyboards, they felt ready to approach the stage once more. A venue was selected and they played to a standing room only crowd at The Galaxy Hut in Arlington. After a great reception from their new fans and some much needed criticism by close friends, they needed to move beyond sharing the duties of singing and bring in a voice that could send chills down the spine.
After extensive auditions it was clear they were looking for something very unique to complement as well as contrast their sound. So with a chance meeting at the same coffee shop where Julian and Josh first met, Laura Bach was found. She added a unique flair with her vocal style and new life to the song writing process. So they hit the wood shed yet again and turned out many new songs weeding out ones previously thought to be keepers.
Well into 2007 and nearing the one-year mark of the creation of the Native Sons, the idea of putting together an album was tossed around. So recording sessions began. Laura contributed many lyrics to what would have been the Native Sons first album. Unfortunately, Laura was compelled to move on before completing the recordings.
Dismayed by the loss, the Native Sons pushed on performing instrumental works at open mics seeking out her replacement. Shortly there after, Matt went on Hiatus leaving Josh and Julian to push on with no rhythm section, and the search began. With no stone left unturned the search seemed futile. In a moment of hopelessness and with no time to spare a prayer was prayed and the search was no longer in their hands.
With a show booked three weeks away hope was revived when at that same coffee shop Julian and Josh, both met their soon to be vocalist, Melanie Cobb, on separate occasions as if the hand of fate was at work turning that ever famous wheel. As luck would have it Mel was dating a Drummer, Rob Nicholson, and wasting no time they began rehearsing for the up coming show.
They crammed in as many rehearsals as possible and were performance ready with 18 songs before the gig. It went off with out a hitch or so they thought. It turns out the old saying "never dip your pen in company ink" proved to be true. With a tough decision Rob wanting to preserve a relationship with Mel, left the band. So again the search was on.
Not looking forward to the auditioning proccess again an invite was sent out to an old friend, Robbie Burns, who gladly accepted the invitation. At last in august of 2008 the Native Sons settled upon the line up which stands strong today.
The Native Sons came full circle performing for a Damien Einstein benefit at The Whiskey in Annapolis with their good friends Keegan Corbey, Eileen Korn and The Rhythm Handlers. The Native Sons are currently writing and rehearsing the unfinished album, incorporating many songs from the many changes the Native Sons endured, including new works brought to the table by Melanie and Robbie.
