Natural Disaster was formed in 2002 to perform at the String Fling at Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri. The event was organized by Kathy Friend of Neosho and she asked her fellow classmates from the East Newton High School graduating Class of 1974 if they would perform with her. Mrs. Friend, was joined by classmates Richard Taylor, Randy Turner, her sister Kristi Berner, and friends Tammy Vance and Tim Brazelton to form the group. At that time, the group performed everything from novelty numbers to girl group songs to old western standards like "Cattle Call" and "Happy Trails."
In 2003, the group which had played primarily acoustic music to that point, was joined by drummer John Scott and lead guitarist Mark McClintock. The girls left the group following a July 2003 performance at the annual Old Mining Town Days Celebration in Granby, Missouri.
Brazelton left a year later, and was replaced by Tracy Minear, while McClintock left the group in 2006 and was replaced by Charlie Brown.
The current group consists of Richard Taylor, Stark City, group leader, vocals, guitar; Randy Turner, Joplin, vocals, percussion; Tony Marsh, Joplin, drums; Tracy Minear, Webb City, bass; and Charlie Brown, Granby, lead guitar, and concentrates primarily on rock and country music from the 1950s and 1960s.
