Excelling @ Live Shows Philadelphia-based Natural Selections current style of music is the
result of evolution. Originally formed in 1996 by vocalist Alesia Dessau as a straight-ahead
jazz combo, the group has progressed over the past eight years to include funk, soul, R&B,
hip-hop, and rock into its sound. The current members of the group are experienced in
virtually all styles of western music, and the resulting creations of these talented musicians
have a wide appeal.
Alesia Dessaus sultry vocals and inventive lyrics float above tight vocal harmonies, solid
rhythmic grooves, and carefully placed melodies creating a unique sound that moves the
body, mind and spirit.
One needs to look no further than the rhythm section to notice the diverse influences
involved in Natural Selections music. Where Natural Selection truly excels, though, is in live performance. The onstage chemistry
that exists between all of the band members is infectious, and the adventurous, improvised
nature of the music will move any audience. The powerful vocals and the foundation of solid
rhythmic communication that define Natural Selections sound are magnified by the energy
of a live performance.
Its not surprising that Natural Selection has regular monthly gigs at Philadelphias top
original music venues, as well as a large and loyal (and ever expanding) following consisting
of fans of all styles of music.
