Lessons in Heroism
One of the greatest gifts that God has given us is the gift of meaning. That is, the gift of finding meaning in our experiences. By examining our experiences and discovering meaning in them, we are in a sense of redeeming those experiences.
God teaches us the importance of this process when he insturcted us to set up altars, to celebrate annual feasts, to practice remembering and to teach our children. In fact, remembering is key to finding meaning in our lives. When God instructed Moses that the nation of Isreal was to celebrate Passover, He said, "Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and the LORD your God redeemed you". Remember who you are and remember what God has done.
God is still at work among us, still touching us in miraculous ways, still bringing heroes into our lives. Our lives are given meaning that perhaps we've never before experienced. And in celebrating these encounters with God's heroes, we, too, get a chance to remember who we are, remember what God has done and what he continues to do.
