"Aman" (peace of the soul) is Nawal’s second full-length album. A self-produced artist, Nawal’s unique sound combines influences from her native islands Comoros and far beyond into an acoustic roots-based fusion. Between traditional and contemporary, Nawal's music is a reflection of the diverse character of life in her native islands. Indo-Arabian-Persian music meets Bantu polyphonies, the syncopated rhythms and Sufi trance of the Indian Ocean. Nawal sings mainly in Comorian, also with Arabic, French and English. Known as the "Voice of Comoros," Nawal is also the first Comoran woman singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist to give performances in public.
Originaire de l’archipel des Comores, Nawal est auteure-compositeure-interprète. Sa voix chaude et profonde n’a pas mis longtemps à être reconnue “Voix des Comores”.
Entre traditionnel et contemporain, la musique de Nawal, résolument acoustique, tisse un harmonieux dialogue des cultures indo-arabo-persane, les polyphonies bantous, les chants soufis, les rythmes syncopés de l’océan Indien et un zest de swing. Pendant son enfance, Nawal a baigné dans un monde musical à la fois pop et religieux. Au fil du temps sa musique s’est dépouillée pour aller à l’essentiel, et Nawal, qui chante et joue de la guitare et du gambusi (sorte de luth local, hérité du Yémen), a choisi la formule en trio, avec contrebasse et percussion.
