http://myspace.com/brettbixby.. .. ,wow thanx alot for thy add, any bands out there wana have me at there next gig or party, i can adapt my style from intense to mello low key what ever will work,i am inspiered by music and i am just lookin ta do what i do create. bio: I first got started after listening to live music my whole life. And then hanging out with my musician frends while they jam, Ihen I found myself allways wanting to participate and i thought, well what do i do best and how can i colaberate and shazam, It hit me like a total brick wall, I paint and why not during live music, I was allready doing it i just didnt relize it when i paint in my studio i would have the music on, so i ran it by my drummer friend Zach Morris and so we tryed it and got a weekly gig in petaluma for a few months,I realy like the spontanious creating totaly in the moment and started hiting up bands in 2003 and incouraging other artists to try this. i found out later that i was not the first to come up with this idea but there had been others like denny dent allready doing it for many years,i was happy to hear that and exited to see how far i could take it and well as les claypool would say there ya go.my journal from past shows on modern guitars magazine this is an awsome photo by adlerproductions.com get prints by Neal Barbosa get prints by Neal Barbosa ..


Neal is not just a painter, but an experience, or experiment. His performances are explosive, attacking his canvas as the music pulses through his body. His visuals add a facet to the sounds that inspire his performance.

It's more than a light show. Every paintbrush rips through the air with the rhythm and riffs. He's synchronized with the rhythm and melodies created by the experimental musicians with whom he often shares the stage.

"...the band leaves Detroit for Chi-town. Up the tempo, up the snare, and Neal is bringing on the blues - cool midnight blue blows up the canvas from the right - looking like a mildly frenzied Picasso, he wipes his brush on his robed hip, using his elbow to blend the blues. Before the downbeat, the plunger is off and Neal is slapping colors as sharply as the snare slaps the bass line."

He experiences music in a very unconventional manner. He uses brushes, a plunger, his elbow and anything within arms reach to lay down the licks as the guitarist rips through their riffs. He paints on canvas, fiberboard, T-shirts, guitars and even members of the audience. He has shared the stage with hundreds of musicians, both headliners and local favorites. some include: Lary Carlton, Rocco Deluca, Les Claypool, Mike Dillon, Skerik,
Cast of Clowns with Craig Wright ,Jeff Pevar of Phil and Friends, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Jazz is Dead, Ray Charles and Melvin Seals of the Jerry Garcia Band.

He can also be found performing at local venues with forward thinking talents @ The Hop Monk Tavern in Sebastopol, The Mystic theatre in Petaluma,The Lagunitas pub in Petaluma,and The Last day Saloon in Santa Rosa
For several years now, Neal has been taking painting to a new level. It's not just about the finished painting, but the means to an end that distinguishes Neal's work for a rest of the pack. That includes other artists performing to live music. There is nothing deliberate about his art, it just explodes out of him.
Neal's art studio is the stage he shares with the musicians he is performing with. His subject is the tunes and his canvas is just about anything that which paint will adhere to. His are his instruments finding their own groove and painting to their own beat. The music evokes the imagery his brushes slice through the air.
Neal paints with acrylics, using a variety of supports, from canvas and other cloth materials including clothing, sometimes painting the bodies of the fans in attendance, using the human from as his canvas. Neal has been know to paint the musical instruments of the band... Simply put, Neal is always thinking outside the box and always searching for a new means of expression. These days he is largely creating on wood fiber panels with acrylic, producing mixed media pieces. ................................
