Born and raised in Anniston, Alabama. Discovered music early on...thanks to my sister for all the 8-tracks I nabbed from her and for that cassette tape I found in 1984 that just said "Murmur" on one side and "Reckoning" on the other. Things moved quickly after that. Played in bands with good friends all through highschool, taking short hiatuses both for college and then grad school. Between the two, I lived in Birmingham and played in more bands with truly incredible musicians who taught me a lot. I also managed to find and marry the coolest woman in the universe. Going to grad school meant moving to Athens, Georgia--a town of near mythical proportions in my mind since I was 13--and I've stayed here ever since. Can't imagine living anywhere else. More incredible bands and amazingly talented musicians in one place than you could ever hope to find--and I mean right now, not just the classic scene from the 80's.
Currently playing with the band Helen, Dodge--yet again, with good friends and for the first time ever, with my lovely wife also.
Howdy! It was so great to sing with you again on Friday - we really do HAVE to get together to jam and hang out. Thanks again so much for coming to my show at The Green Room! Looking forward to hearing Helen, Dodge play again soon. Let me know when you and whoever are going to jam... Love ya', Rachel
Well, that'll be even cooler then. We'll have 2 chances to rip some riffs. And of course, the 40 Watt sound system always makes everything sound so monstrous. So yeah - "Phony" should truly kick there! It should be fun!
By the way, beautiful guitar playing, man. Is that a little Bert Jansch I hear in your sound or is it my imagination projecting? Either way, I'm digging it.
Thanks, Neal. Yeah, believe it or not, there was actually a debate when we were first coming up with that extended section of "Phony" that went something like "Can an Athens, Georgia band really do something like that?" There was much debate. The rock won. We'll look forward to seeing you next week, too!
Neal, you rocked last night! I'm so glad you invited me to share your evening! I could feel the spirits there listening - if you know what I mean. See you soon, brother!
So I have a request for you: Angie Sexton has asked that you get on Facebook! You have to check out photos they are putting up from the yesteryears....you included, my friend. :)
