NEAR DARK are a 4-piece female fronted rock/metal band from Coventry.
CHERYL - Vocals.
CRAIG - Guitar.
KEVIN - Bass.
JOHN - Drums.
Taking our musicals influences form artists as diverse as Alanis Morrisette through to Slayer via the Misfits, Iron Maiden, Disturbed, Machine Head, Pantera, Black Stone Cherry and Metallica (pre Load)- to name but a few, we have created a unique groove driven sound.
NEAR DARK formed in November 2007 after Kevin spilt from a previous band due to musical differences. He asked his wife Cheryl if she would like to put her voice to good use and then went on the search for a guitarist and drummer.
Mark was recruited in late December 2007, and after trying a few drummers we found Chris who joined us in March 2008.
In June 2008 we played our 1st gig at The Lord Raglan a.k.a The Raggy in Exhall, Coventry, we surprised the crowd with our original sound and the set went down really well.
Since then we have been a regular fixture on the local music scene, playing at The Golden Cross, The Tuns, The Dog and Trumpet and The General Wolfe in Coventry, we have also played further afield at The Vic Bikers Bar in Coalville and The Old Angel in Nottingham.
We recently lost our original guitarist Mark, he moved to Canada (the lucky sod!) After much interest and a few auditions, we found a fantastic replacement in the form of Craig, who filled the spot perfectly. He started gigging with us after only 4 weeks of joining the band, playing his 1st gig at The Dog and Trumpet and has seamlessly slotted into place as the 6-string destroyer of the band.
We have recorded a live demo CD of one of our many gigs at the Golden Cross, and we will be hitting the studio soon to record a broadcast quality demo, ready to start the next phase in NEAR DARK’s history.
We recently parted ways with Chris, but have since recruited ex-ManAkin/Bless The Bleeding Sky drummer John into our ranks, beating Craig's record from joining to gigging after 8 days and 3 practices!

Next up was Coventry based Heavy-Rock/Metal four-piece Near Dark. A sound distinguished by hard riffs, heavy beats and Cheryl’s powerful and raw Rock howl, they are a band who know exactly how to get the most from their direction and who perform with an infectious charisma that really got the crowd going. Strong material, a great presence and a sharp sound – the band have the complete package.

Metal band NEAR DARK take to the stage in a haze of dry ice, vocalist Cheryl has a powerful raspy voice that thunders over the mic as her hair crew of a band provide some intense riffage. With no shortage of lung capacity it's a treat to witness a frontwoman break boundaries by taking on her own acquired style, which is far more challenging and complimentary to the band's hammer sound.
Alright guys just wanted to say good gig last night night guys, really enjoyed it. I couldn't hang round after your set, had to shoot off. I take my hat off to Kev too playing drums after one practice was awesome well done mate. Hopefully we'll get a new drummer soon so we can gig with you guys again. Keep rockin!!!!!!!!!!
£300 is really good, it was a good gig and everything went well. We are all really sorry that we couldnt stay and watch your set. We stayed to watch the band after us, but unfortunately our lifts home (parents) had to leave. It would be good if we could arrange another gig with you sometime. Possibly with Lipshock and the Glassguns (as ive spoken to both of them and they said they wouldnt mind arranging a gig with us.) And this time, we will make sure that we stay for every one, and pay our respects to the other bands.
