NedFest is an annual three-day outdoor music, arts and microbrew festival with camping located in the mountains of Nederland Colorado, just 17 miles west of (3, 000 ft. above) Boulder. It happens at the end of August and the music featured is in the Bluegrass, Jazz, Jamband, Jamgrass and World Beat genres, or moreso, a sound that blends these styles and others together. Cheers & Howdy! My name is Mike Torpie, although most people have been calling me "Michigan Mike" since my first night in Colorado- winter of '92. Since then I've done a lot with my life. I've booked live entertainment in and around Nederland, CO for about fifteen years now... something which really helped kick-start the town's music scene back in the day and also helped boost Boulder and Denver's scenes as well. A lot of bands that are currently red hot met thru gigs that I put together up here.
My biggest claim to fame is that of being the founder of NedFest, an annual three-day outdoor music and microbrew festival with camping that happens at the end of August and attracts people from Coast to Coast. It started innocently enough as parties with bands and kegs in my backyard in the summer of '95 and has since grown into something really quite special.

I'm also the creator/organizer of Nederland Acid Jazz... a weekly, all-improv jam session with an always-changing rotation of the finest jazz and funk musicians from Colorado and beyond. The Monday night tradition began in July '96 and ran until August 2004. Pretty much no two ensembles were the same. Often the players had not met until gig night but the quality of musicianship was always superior. It was by far the most popular night to go out in Boulder County and surely it will return somewhere one day. Lastly, I was elected to Nederland's Board of Trustees (ie Town Board) in 2004 and served a 4-year term of public office. I feel it's important to be a good person and to be community oriented.
