MERRY CHRISTMAS
WE ARE HERE ALL TOGETHER
IN THIS PLACE THAT USUALLY
IS SILENT
IN THIS HOLY NIGHT
INSTEAD OF STAYING IN OUR HOMES
EATING, PLAYING CARDS,UNWRAPPING GIFTS WITH OUR RELATIVES
WE DECIDED TO BE HERE
ALSO AT CHRISTMAS EVE
THE LETTERS YOU RECEIVED IN THESE DAYS DIDN'T HIT ONLY YOU
BUT ALL THE COMMUNITY
AND THE COMMUNITY IS CLOSE TO THEIR SONS, WOUNDED WHERE IT HURTS THE MOST: THEIR DIGNITY
WAITNG FOR THE BIRTH OF SON OF GOD
IN FRONT OF THOSE GATES
INSTEAD OF INSIDE THE HOUSE OF THE LORD
COULD SEEM OUT OF PLACE
BUT IT IS HERE THAT OUR LORD
THIS EVENING
HAS DECIDED TO CELEBRATE THE COMING OF HIS SON JESUS
WE PRAY SO THAT AT LEAST IN THIS HOLY NIGHT
OUR BEING TOGETHER CAN BRING SERENITY IN YOUR HEARTS
WHILE THIS COLD THAT MAKE US TREMBLE
CAN TURN INTO THE HEAT OF HOPE
PLEASE EXCHANGE A SIGN OF PEACE

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
