myself, the mighty Hovis, Olizilla of course, as co-founder, but we cant forget helpful faces like Daisy, now, or Sarah Bear, can we?

very eclectic.. we aim to confuse the small-minded pigeon-holers.. but having said that, we can be quite militant in our dislikes.. anything with soul.. A soul, that is, its more than just female vocals.. something original, some skill, we like content, not vacuous style.. sorry Vince, the hair does NOT make the musician, (oops, there goes the art-rock contingent).. matching outfits / uniforms? damn.. since when did every stage turn into a catwalk? but then, what is a band without style? simply lift music, with the bass turned up.. music is a difficult thing to quantify without confusing and alienating yourself, let alone others.. maybe its better that way.. the labels are there simply to aid big business in product placement, so that the advertisers can pull the right stock images out of the box, and the so that the chainstore manager, who doesnt even own a music collection, can pop em on the correct shelf, and vaguely point people towards 'punk', 'jazz', hiphop', whatever label pops out next..
and another thing.. the worst label of all has to be 'world' music.. what does that mean?? the rest of the world? other than England? then whys America not in it? its not world music, its Balkan kocec's, its Cuban son, its West African highlife.. or its the Finnish avant-garde death-folk prog-klezmer of alamaailman vasarat..or, more sensibly, EVERYTHING is world music.. none of em came from the Moon, that i know of; and the recording facilities on Mars just aint up to scratch.. the audio comes out far too dry, no atmosphere.. come to think of it, maybe the pop industry is entirely based on Martian soil.. it'd certainly explain europop..
{03/04/09} - Needleandthread spring hop..
jamm bar, 261 brixton road, sw9 6lh..
9pm till late..
£5 before 11pm, £6 after..
What a great way to start the month with an incredible line up of live artists and DJ’s bringing lyrical flavours and hip hop beats to Jamm.
The line up is likely to take the roof off Jamm with Speakers Corner Quartet at number one on the list. These guys have headlined the Jazz Cafe and opened for Herbie Hancock at the Royal Albert Hall, as well as working with some big names in hip hop.
In addition to this amazing headline, The Sound of Rum who are festival legends with lyricist Excentral Tempest at the helm, will also be on hand to build the vibes (Rob Da Bank is amongst there many fans). Plus Onyx Ashanti and Daisy Kelly Granger will add some serious funk and soul respectively.
In addition to the incredible live line up comes DJ support from the best around. DJ Snuff is a local hip hop legend, founder of first ‘Speakers Corner’ and then he English branch of the global hip hop movement ‘End of the Weak’. Another DJ who recently also re-launched a strand of a global network ‘Balkan Beats London’, DJ Malaka will be blending traditional folk from Eastern Europe with pounding dance music. Add Popcorn Charly and Drusus Germanicus to the line up and you have a funk fuelled, world eclectic vibe of top class music to take you into the early hours.
LIVE
Speakers Corner Quartet; Truly incredible acoustic band, blending the borders of jazz and hip hop, with mesmerising effect.
The Sound Of Rum; Excentral Tempest, seasoned wordsmith, complete with live hiphop band and lyrically charged beats.
Onyx Ashanti; (Afro-Futuristik) twisted electronic funk, looped out live on clarinet. Toured with Soul II Soul.
Daisy Kelly Granger; Soulful songstress with amazing acoustic credentials now performs with amazing live band.
DJ’s
Dj Snuff (EndOfTheWeakUK); Probably deserving of a knighthood, for “services to UK hiphop”. Also a master of funk and afrobeat cuts.
Dj Malaka (BalkanBeatsLondon); Twisted purveyor of bizarre turbo-folk and gypsy breaks.. foot-stompingly good.
Popcorn Charly (Bogus Gasman); Moonlighting as a spinner of rare funk and ska, when not trumpeting with the Gasman.
Drusus Germanicus (Cafe Cairo); As eclectic as they come.. floor-fillers of all descriptions.. genre-defying leaps of imagination.

Hovis? Scum drunk, costa coffee aint punk, I aint sailing on a ship full of tea thats been strained out and sunk, if it was up to me id live in the sea but only if it was boiling up in a foam cup thats free, for me also id go for a custard cream or a rich tea round but i stuggle with their bouyancy and the unsatisfactory sound of the sticky biscuit lump as it hits the sea bed id rather be thrown a coconut ring or a raft made of digestive.
