Dúo Nua was formed in Dublin in December 2008. Upon meeting at a session in the Conradh na Gaeilge bar, Irish fiddle-player, Eoghan Neff, and Spanish uilleann-piper, César Pastor, found themselves performing a new kind of duet of Irish traditional music. The following day, the pair brought their concept to the basement of the Irish Traditional Music Archive, Eoghan's workplace, to make sure the excitement of the night before was justified. Upon Eoghan's move to Madrid in 2009, they recorded a demo of their ideas. Dúo Nua is quickly gathering pace, already becoming recognised as a central outfit of the folk music scene in Spain and an important new force in Irish music.

Eoghan Neff

Eoghan Neff has recorded and toured to critical acclaim with such international productions as Riverdance, NeffBros (with his brother Flaithrí Neff of the Afro-Celt Sound System, Shaun Davey), Anxo Lorenzo, Martin Tourish (of the Patti Smith band), Fiddlesticks, and Paul Booth (of the Steve Winwood band). His forthcoming release, Amalgamare, is an improvisation CD with organist and monk of Glenstal Abbey, Cyprian Love. Archivist at the Irish Traditional Music Archive, Dublin, Eoghan is also currently completing his PhD in music at Cardiff University. He has earned many prestigious awards at international level for both performance and academic work where he has already a number of publications in ethnomusicology and traditional music studies.

César Pastor is a founding member of the Asturian pipe band La Tayuela de Mecer where he performs as gaita soloist, and the Irish traditional group, Shymen. He has collaborated with artists such as José Ángel Hevia, Cristina del Valle, and the folk group Corquieu. He has also guested on stage as soloist with Carlos Núñez, The Chieftains, and Brenga Astur. He is central to the advancement of uilleann piping in Madrid, boasting a large following of students. He is currently in the process of creating a Spanish uilleann pipers society, Na Píobairí Uilleann España. He is regularly invited to give master classes and workshops throughout the country (Cáceres Irish Fleadh, El encuentro de Músicos Tradicionales en Crevillent, etc.).
