About me: The Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter (NEGAS) believes that all animals are entitled to be free from suffering, abuse, and exploitation. We believe in the intrinsic dignity and sanctity of animal life. We have an obligation to prevent cruelty, alleviate suffering, and to protect and care for homeless and abandoned animals. Our mission is to promote the adoption of companion animals and to educate the public on responsible pet ownership. We believe that our values, decisions, conduct, and behavior should set the tone and be a model for others in their care and treatment of animals.
Who I'd like to meet: The Northest Georgia Animal Shelter (NEGAS) is an open admission, non-profit Shelter, supported financially by private donations and funds from eight city and county jurisdictions. We accept animals from Hart and Franklin Counties. We often take in sick and injured stray animals, feral cats and wild dogs. In these cases, it is our obligation to humanely end the suffering of these animals. We strive to get all of our animals adopted, and often work with rescue groups and other local shelters to achieve this. Our maximum capacity is 60 animals. Currently our adoption rate is 40% and we are working hard every day to increase it. Our goal of course, is an adoption rate of 100%. We also have a 40% RESCUE rate! Thanks to all the rescues that pull from us. We are very rescue friendly. Come visit us we're located at 870 Bear Creek Road in Lavonia Georgia zip 30553 or visit our website at www.negas.weebly.com

Lavonia, GA 30553
Take I-85 north to the Lavonia exit 173 at Hwy. 17, go right, travel approximately 1.5 miles through town, turn right at the Northeast Georgia Bank on to Bear Creek Road. The Shelter is approximately 1 mile on the right. The hours of operation are from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Tuesday through Saturday. Adoptions:
NEGAS handles approximately 2,500 animals per year. Adoption fees are used to reimburse local veterinarians who spay or neuter the adopted animals. When an animal is adopted, the owner is given a certificate that can be redeemed at a participating veterinarian clinic for the required rabies vaccinations and spay/neuter procedures on their new pet. For dogs and cats that need altering, $55 and $45 are charged, respectively, for adoption. Dogs and cats that come to the Shelter already spayed or neutered can be adopted for $15.
To sponsor a NEGAS animal please send a check with the animals name on it to shelter address. Sponsoring an animal's vet care makes a big difference for that one animal!

Target:PETA & Commissioner, NFL, Roger S. Goodell Sponsored by: Advocate for Saving Dogs PETA helping Vick get back into the game by making him an animal-rights spokesperson! NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Michael Vick is in talks to become the new spokesman for PETA. The disgraced one-time NFL superstar serving prison time for funding an illegal dog-fighting ring is primed to do public-service ads for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals upon his release later this month. According to three people with knowledge of the matter, the proposed endorsement is part of a comprehensive PR scheme aimed at rehabilitating the quarterback. Other image-changing moves That's not all Mr. Vick will do to try to rehabilitate his image. People with knowledge of his comeback plan said it will also include mea culpa TV interviews, PSAs and charitable donations to other animal-rights organizations (or perhaps the formation of his own foundation), along with the possibility of working with PETA. But this might be the mother of all PR jobs. Mr. Vick's obstacles are many: a hard-line NFL commissioner who wants to see "genuine remorse" before reinstating Mr. Vick to the league; individual franchises that might be wary of the backlash and potential damage to their brands from signing Mr. Vick; and an incredulous public that remains shocked by the story.
