Negative Latvia is here to support great finnish band Negative. This is the first latvian Negative support and we are very proud of that.

Biography of Band

Negative was founded in Tampere, Finland in 1997 by Jonne and Jay. Later Antti, Larry, Sir Christus (he parted ways with the band in January 2008. Good luck in future, Krissi!) and Snack joined them. Negative has already released 4 albums - the last one Karma Killer was released on May 7th 2008 - and a DVD. Negative is one of the most popular bands in Finland. They are having tours not only in Europe but also in China and Japan. Thanks to the Internet, their music has reached people in Northern and Latin America whom are looking forward to see the band there. Mexican fans already had chance to see them - Negative had their first gig in Mexico in November 2008.

Negative's way to recording their debut album was long and difficult. It took five years to get a contract with record company. Sometimes the band had already lost faith. So, when they finally got a contract they couldn't believe that it's true. Album “War of Love” was released in 2003. The first single from it was “The Moment of Our Love” which went straight to the # 2 on the Finnish single chart and then moved to # 1. This was the start of Negative's success. Soon the song was played on many radio channels and they were also noticed by press.

When the band was recording “Sweet & Deceitful”, they had not only became well known, but they had also turned from five-piece into six-piece band – their concert keyboarder Snack joined the band officially.
Album was released in 2004 and included one cover version – Neil Young's “My My/ Hey Hey” and one duet – in “Until You’re Mine” Jonne sings together with Ville Laihiala from Sentenced. Third album – “Anorectic” – was released in 2006. Musically it is the most aggressive album of Negative. Band used circus stylistics for it – there's a portrait of clown on the album cover. Video for the song “Planet of the Sun” was also shot in the circus.

In autumn 2007, Negative took a break from touring to record their fourth studio album. During the recording band also released their first DVD “In the Eye of the Hurricane” on January 2008. In fact, they wanted to release a DVD already in year 2003.

Shortly before DVD release, lead guitarist Sir Christus parted ways with the band. After he left, Negative decided that they'll look for new rhythm and not for new lead guitarist. Lead guitarist's place was taken by current rhythm guitarist Larry.

To finish the record of the album band needed two guitars. Did they involve some guitarist from side? No, all guitar parts – for lead and for rhythm guitar - were played by Larry alone.
Now Negative had started their new, "Karma Killer" tour, that will include at least 17 contries.

Facts about Negative:
• Jonne got his second name “Aaron” from Elvis Aaron Presley.
• Jay played bass before he became a drummer; Antti played drums before he became a bass player.
• Recordind “Sweet & Deceitful” Jonne was wearing silver bracelets. If you listen “About My Sorrow” carefully, you can hear them jingling.
• Snack was a rhythm guitarist before he joined Negative.
• When Antti joined the band he didn't know how to play bass. He borrowed his first bass guitar from his friend.
• Name of the band was taken from Nirvana's “Negative Creep”
• Jonne got his first guitar from his godfather – he sent it in pieces from America. Jonne spent one summer putting it together.

Grupas biogrāfija

Grupa Negative nāk no Somijas pilsētas Tamperes, 1997. gadā to nodibināja Jonne Ārons (vokāls) un Jay Slammer (bungas). Vēlāk viņiem pievienojās Anti (bass), Larry Love (ģitāra), Sir Christus (ģitāra, pameta grupu 2008. gada janvārī) un Snack (taustiņi). Grupas diskogrāfijā ietilpst 4 albumi un viens DVD. Negative ir viena no populārākajām grupām Somijā. Viņi ir koncertējuši ne tikai Eiropā, bet arī tādās valstīs kā Ķīna un Japāna. Pateicoties Internetam, viņu mūzika ir sasniegusi cilvēkus arī Ziemeļ- un Dienvidamerikā un turienes fani ar nepacietību gaida, kad grupa koncertēs arī pie viņiem. Meksikāņu faniem jau ir paveicies – 2008. gada novembrī grupa pirmo reizi spēlēja Meksikā.

Grupas ceļš uz debijas albuma ierakstīšanu bija ilgs un sarežģīts. Pagāja pieci gadi, līdz viņi parakstīja līgumu ar ierakstu kompāniju. Neieinteresētība no ierakstu kompānijas puses nomāca Negative un brīžiem viņi gandrīz zaudēja ticību grupai, tādēļ tad, kad 2002. gadā viņiem piedāvāja ierakstīt albumu, grupas dalībniekiem bija pagrūti noticēt, ka tas notiek pa īstam. Albums „War of love” nāca klajā 2003. gadā. Par tā pirmo singlu kļuva “The moment of our love”, kurš debitēja Somijas singlu topa 2. vietā un vēlāk pakāpās uz pirmo vietu. Ar to arī sākās Negative panākumi. Drīz vien dziesmu spēlēja daudzās radiostacijās un interesi par grupu sāka izrādīt arī prese.

Kad grupa ierakstīja savu otro albumu “Sweet & Deceitful”, viņi ne tikai bija pārvērtušies no mazpazīstamas grupas populārā, bet arī piedzīvojuši izmaiņas grupas sastāvā – līdzšinējais kvintets pārtapa par sekstetu, kad uzaicinājumu oficiāli pievienoties grupai saņēma toreizējais koncertu taustiņinstrumentālists Snack. Albums nāca klajā 2004. gadā un tajā ietilpa viena kaverversija – Neila Janga dziesmai “My my hey hey”, kā arī duets – dziesmā “Until you’re mine” dzirdama Villes Laihialas (Sentenced) balss.

Trešais albums – “Anorectic” – nāca klajā 2006. gadā. Muzikālajā ziņā tas ir visagresīvākais Negative albums. Albuma vizuālā koncepcija bija cirks – piemēram, uz albuma vāka redzams skumja klauna portrets, savukārt videoklips dziesmai “Planet of the sun” filmēts cirkā.

2007. gada novembrī grupa izplatīja paziņojumu par to, ka grasās ņemt pauzi, lai ierakstītu savu ceturto studijas albumu. Paralēli izdošanai tika gatavots grupas DVD “In the eye of the hurricane”, kurš nāca klajā 2008. janvārī. Starp citu, šo DVD izdot bija plānots jau 2003. gadā, bet nu – kas lēni nāk, tas labi nāk… :)

Īsi pirms DVD iznākšanas grupu pameta Sir Christus. Sākotnēji Negative grasījās meklēt citu ģitāristu un saņēma aptuveni 200 pieteikumus no visas pasaules. Pagaidu ģitāristu viņi gan atrada turpat Somijā – vasaras festivālus viņi nospēlēja kopā ar Gary no grupas Technicolour. Par oficiālu grupas dalībnieku viņš gan nekļuva – Negative nolēma vispār iztikt bez otra ģitārista un izplatīja oficiālu paziņojumu par palikšanu 5 cilvēku sastāvā.

Ceturtais albums “Karma Killer” nāca klajā 2008. gada maijā. Tā ierakstam tika izmantotas divas ģitāras un Negative iztika bez palīdzības no malas – visas ģitāras partijas iespēlēja Larry viens pats.

Šobrīd Negative ir uzsākuši savu jauno tūri, kura aptvers vismaz 17 valstis.

• Jonnes otrais vārds ”Ārons” ir par godu Elvisam Āronam Preslijam – Jonnes mamma bija liela Preslija fane
• Jay spēlēja basu, pirms kļuva par bundzinieku; Anti spēlēja bungas, pirms kļuva par basistu
• Ierakstot ”Sweet & Deceitful”, Jonne valkāja sudraba rokassprādzes. Ja uzmanīgi klausās dziesmu ”About my sorrow”, var dzirdēt tās džinkstam
• Pirms pievienoties Negative, Snack bija ritma ģitārists
• Kad Anti pievienojās grupai, viņš nemaz neprata spēlēt basu. Pirmo basģitāru viņš aizņēmās no drauga
• Grupas nosaukums ņemts no Nirvana dziesmas ”Negative Creep”
• Pie savas pirmās ģitāras Jonne tika, pateicoties krusttēvam – viņš to pa daļām sūtīja no Amerikas. Jonne pavadīja vasaru, likdams to kopā.
