About me:

The Northeast High School Instrumental Music is one of the most diverse and sought after music programs in the City of Philadelphia. The Program includes an Award-Winning Marching Band and Jazz Ensemble in addition to a Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Band. Students of the Instrumental Music Program consistently represent a large percentage of the prestigious All-Philadelphia High School Band and Orchestra. In addition, Instrumental Music Students have been regularly selected as members of the Pennsylvania Music Educators' Association (PMEA) High School Band and Orchestra Festivals at the District and Regional levels. Housed within a comprehensive high school, the Northeast High School Instrumental Music Program is a model and leader among all Music Programs in the City of Philadelphia.

The Instrumental Music Department of Northeast High School is comprised of over 110 highly talented and motivated young adults ranging from grades 9-12. The Instrumental Music Department averages 50+ performances each school year. Musicians have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of ensembles such as Marching Band, Orchestra, String Ensemble, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Saxophone Quartet,Clarinet Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, String Quartet, Brass Quintet, Percussion Ensemble, Small Jazz Combo, Theory Class and whatever other ensembles may develop as a result of our uniquely talented individuals. Our students benefit from private instruction on their instruments froma highly talented staff of instrumental music teachers, and every student is encouraged to study privately, as it will help further advance the sound and musicianship of the group as a whole.

A few of the annual events in which we perform include a Broadway Show Production (recent years have seen successful productions of Sound of Music, West Side Story, Good News, Grease, Bye Bye Birdie, Crazy For You, Music Man, Annie Get Your Gun, and Guys & Dolls), a region-wide music festival, the city-wide Jazz Festival, a biennial group trip to Disney World, a Winter and Spring concert, the Alumni Day Celebration, and the Northeast High School Convocation & Commencement Exercises.

Northeast High School is asked to perform at many community events because of its positive reputation and high musical standards. Recent years have seen the Northeast High School Jazz Band & Marching Band enter the competition arena for the first time. This group is designed to keep everyone in contact with each other as the years progress. Many Alumni of the Instrumental Music Program are currently connected to this group and as time progresses I am sure there will be hundreds more who will stay connected to our Northeast Family.

Comprised of over 80 students, the North East High School Marching Band is by far the largest activity in the school. The band practices before school at 7 am, and after school until 4:30-7:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A lot of work you might say? Yes, it is but all that hard work and time really shows when we perform in parades, shows, football games.
