Here is a little film we made during a rehearsal for Frankenstein the other day.... its all about the latest project.... a performance of a new piece for The Neil Campbell Collective and Sense of Sound Choir called Frankenstein, which will take place on Friday 30th Oct at St Georges Hall Concert Room, Liverpool.... if this whets your appetite, you can get tickets from the Unity Theatre (Box Office: 0151 709 4988):
Neil Campbell is a composer based in Liverpool, UK, who has built up a considerable body of systems or algorithmic musical compositions, i.e. music which is designed rather than composed in a conventional sense. Once the rules for these pieces are set the pieces run 'automatically'.
This approach to making contemporary music has its origins in the minimalist works of composers such as Steve Reich and the ambient works of Brian Eno, amongst others.
Following postgradute studies in Music (specialising in Composition) Neil has gone on to produce two CD albums which fall into this category - Rotations (2002) and Assembly (2005). Both of these are available at his website.
Many of these recordings have recieved airplay on BBC Radio 3's eclectic Late Junction programme.
Works include:
Tesselations (for mixed ensemble) (2001), 64 Hexagrams for John Cage (for four pianos and ambient sounds) (2001), Rotations 1-5 (for multiple pianos) (2002), HDQ (for String Orchestra) (2003), Continuum (for Mixed Ensemble) (2003), Carillon (for six classical guitars) (2004), Carillon 2 (2004), Distribution (for four marimbas) (2005), Assembly (for mixed ensemble) (2005), Mass (for Voices) (2005), Carillon 3 (for multitracked cellos) (2006), Mechanisms (for sequenced keyboards) (2007), The Path (2009)

Hi Alister - enjoyed Friday night's gig @ View Two immensly. Great musicianship and fine sound by Jeff with a J (Jepson with another J). Also progging away to 'Particle Theory'. Jeff deserves a lot of credit (Reviewers take note!) for his exceptional vocals on this album

Calling all maniacal sound'n'visionary performance and post-new-art lovers: Berlin's sadly no longer secret cult venue Wallywoods at Weissensee is one year old this weekend. Be there or miss Berlin's freakiest party on Saturday (starting with a wee freaky party on Friday) featuring the opening of our biggest exhibition yet, 23 artists from 20 lands, umpteen music & nutter acts including Isondu Tribe's light-jugglers dropping in from Argentina, the 10 Kaput Pianos Orchestra (open jam sessions), performance piano-painters, a new theramin, an old local bugger who won't leave us alone, and no doubt the odd surprise or VIP. Love to see you. Alive and well. Wally. (Free entry Saturday for everyone, especially naked people with money to spend. )
Triphazard have ended up playing the same festival as you but just tomorrow instead! If you are still about we could talk about adding dance to your new project. If not, I'm planning to come see your gig on 1st Aug in the View 2 Gallery to see what it's all about. I'm intrigued!
Hi Neil, So glad you "friended" me... it's an honor. I've been listening to your work and I am quite enraptured. Look forward to hearing more.... Cheers! Robert
