MusicAsk and I'll tell you. But I've pretty much figured that by filling in this bit, you put yourself out there for every band under the sun to request your 'friendship' so that they can advertise their crap on your site. These people should be beaten with a stick.

BooksToo many to mention. Though Brendan Kennelly's 'The Man Made of Rain' is now high up in my charts. Also, get a copy of Marion Moynihan's 'The Moon's Daughter'. I reckon she's a cracking poet; Billy Ramsell's 'Complicated Pleasures' along with Dave Lordan's 'The Boy in the Ring' are also musts for the collection.

About me:
The poet McCarthy hates talking about himself in the third person, but... he lives in the west of Ireland where he works for his employers, his sins, his mistakes and those bunch of bastards that send him credit card bills every month. It's not all doom and gloom and in recent years his poetry has travelled with him around the world, popping up in the occasional journal, magazine and anthology. In 2005 he hosted The Voice and The Verse series of performances in Galway and in 2006 he dug from Australia clean through to Ireland to start all over again. Maverick Press was launched along with fellow partner in (c)rymhe, Stephen Murray. No, Stephen Murray wasn't launched, but fair play to him, he did the bulk of the work. In 2007 The Voice & The Verse featured at The Prague Fringe Festival and who knows what will happen in the future ladies and gents. Who knows, I ask ya.
Who I'd like to meet:
Lord Lucan's travel agent. Or a salsa dancing eskimo.

Over The Edge presents a reading by poets Caroline Lynch, Drucilla Wall, Neil McCarthy, Terry McDonagh & Charlene Speeren at Sheridan’s Wine Bar, 14-16 Church Yard Street, Galway on Friday, June 27th, 8pm.

Caroline Lynch was born in 1976 and grew up in Cork. She now lives in Galway. While in college, she was the inaugural winner of the Sean Dunne poetry competition. In 2001 she was short listed for the Seacat/Poetry Ireland award. Her poems have appeared in Poetry Ireland, in an anthology of new writing, The Incredible Hides in Every House, edited by Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, and in Writers Seeking Lovers. She won the Listowel Writers' Week poetry collection competition in 2007. Her debut collection, Lost in the Gaeltacht, is just published by Salmon Poetry.

Drucilla Wall has published poems and essays in Cream City Review, Kalliope, The People Who Stayed: South Eastern Indian Writing After Removal; Eating Fire, Tasting Blood: Breaking the Great Silence of the American Indian Holocaust; Times of Sorrow/Times of Grace: Writing by Women of the Great Plains/High Plains; and True West: Authenticity and the American West. She serves on the executive board for the Western Literature Association and holds membership in the Wordcraft Circle of Native American Writers. She teaches writing at the University of Missouri-Saint Louis.

Neil McCarthy is originally from Cork but currently lives in Galway. His poems have appeared in a wide variety of prestigous journals internationally. In 2007 Neil was chosen to take part in both the Poetry Ireland Introductions readings and the Cúirt Festival/Over The Edge showcase reading. He has just returned from a European reading tour with fellow Galway poet, Stephen Murray, which included a highly successful performance at the Prague Fringe Festival.

Howareya? Just a quick schmoley;
Submissions call
The Writers Society of NUIG are currently looking for writing of all kinds for the next edition of their magazine, The Sharp Review. As with the Stinging Fly, making the words count counts more than the word count. We want fiction, poetry, opinions, reviews, anything worth reading. This issue is shaping up nicely with contributions from well knowns and unkowns. The magazine is printed in college and distributed for free around Galway and sometimes further afield. Contributors will receive a copy. Email submissions to writers@socs.nuigalway.ie and put sharp review in the subject line.
Regards, Dave Rock

My absolute favourite Neko Case album is 'furnace room lullabye'- it kicks so much ass. All the best country singers are ex-punks!

Monday went well for me; I managed to survive my guest mc-ing although I was a bag of nerves! O'Bhealers were very forgiving. Great craic at the Crane Lane afterwards.

Meant to say to you that after reading your book, the poem 'The Requiem Bell' has really stuck with me. Reminds me of my christmas, unfortunately. The last three lines are particularly brilliant.

take care,
jm
