I hope I have the phrasing of Dinah Washington, the emotional gravity of Billie Holiday, and the smoothness and wit of Nat King Cole, the attitude of Chrissy Hynde and fun of a good honky-tonk band!
i like old stuff. quality, integrity, passion. old instruments that speak of roadwear and history and love of notes they have created. tube amps and warm tone. the blues. scratchy record sound
i like new stuff. technology and innovation and reinvention. punk. alt. country. computers. guitar tuners.
blues players like to call me a jazz singer. jazz players like to call me a blues singer. i am both and neither.
i have been performing live at southern california's best venues since the mid-nineties, including los angeles' brown derby and the roxy and san diego's belly up tavern, humphrey's, and the casbah.
several of my jazz songs were released last year in poland, turkey, russia, greece, and most recently south korea and parts of asia. these cuts were featured on cd compilations with artists such as ella fitzgerald, jamie cullum, dave brubeck, and cesaria evora.
