The Origins of Raging In The Dark: "The intellect of man is forced to choose perfection of the life, or of the work, and if it take the second must refuse a heavenly mansion, raging in the dark." The music is passion, the music is treachery. Frances (guitar/vocals) began writing music in 2002 while also playing drums for a stoner rock band. On a different stage, Cris (drums) was on guitar/vocals fronting a grunge rock band. The two met in high school, but never made much of their encounters or the talent show which they performed in together. In December of 2005, Frances submitted a demo of her music for consideration at a Battle of the Bands at a local college. Two weeks before the show, she received a response saying she was selected to perform. Her demo suggested she had an entire band to accompany her, but in fact, Raging in the Dark (called Nepenthe at the time) was a one woman show. Frantically searching through her mental notepad for drummers who could learn her songs, she placed the calls but received no reply. Staring with uncertainty at the last name on the list, she decided to call Cris who agreed at once to perform at the show. The first performance was rough around the edges, but there was an unforeseen energy which emerged through their collaboration. The proceeding months consisted of fiendish desires to create music on a regular basis. They recorded a one-take jam, which became The Fine Line. The two were permanently bound together through their own creation. They continue as passengers on this drive through sound and frequency. There is this concept threaded through each song, and it can be described as the fine line. There are conflicting feelings and ideas which collide, and they are the drive behind every song. Raging in the Dark live, is the personification of these emotions in each band member. There exists a fine line between the passion and the treachery.

"The musical stylings of Raging In The Dark are rock inspired, but with an edgy, new twist. The uniqueness of “Nepenthe” is something I’ve never heard before. Pairing poetry from William Butler Yeats with vocals by Frances Scally is absolutely brilliant.
"The intellect of man is forced to choose
Perfection of the life, or of the work
And if it take the second must refuse
A heavenly mansion, raging in the dark."
-William Butler Yeats
Choosing this as the first song on the EP was a creative move because it introduces the name of the band within the song as the words from William Butler Yeats are being recited. All of the songs from “Nepenthe” down to “Human Now” are certainly songs that any fan of music is going to want to hear. Frances Scally and Cris Neglia are definitely on there way to bigger and better things after the release of The Passion The Treachery." -Megan Jakes (HMG NASHVILLE Artist Rep)
