Jason Alder is a contemporary musician, improviser, and recording engineer. He has a Bachelor of Music from Michigan State University where he studied clarinet with Frank Ell. Since 2006, he is living in Amsterdam, studying bass clarinet with Erik van Deuren at the Sweelinck Conservatory of Amsterdam and operating his recording business N&K Music and Audio, Inc. In addition to performing lots of contemporary solo and chamber music repertoire around Europe, he also works with composers to premiere new pieces. Other particular interests include improvisation and electronics, which culminate in his electroacoustic improvisatory ensemble Sonido 13. Jason also writes some electronic pieces, as well as playing clarinets and/or saxophones with various jazz ensembles.

Jason is also a very skilled recording engineer. Stemming from his education in the recording department of Michigan State University, as well as lots of personal interest and experiments in recording, he has developed a well trained ear, particularly for recording classical music. Beginning in the metro Detroit area, his business, N&K Music and Audio, Inc, made many recordings for local school bands and orchestras, as well as for the state festivals. now with his relocation to Amsterdam, he continues to make excellent recordings for, specifically for the budget-conscience student. He is available to record on-location concerts, recitals, exams, as well as individual studio work, either in a venue of your choice, or in a studio space.

Current Projects and News:
--- I began 2009 in Berlin, playing "Le Sacre du Printemps (Rite of Spring)" in the Berliner Philharmonie with the Deutsch Skandinavisch Jugend Philharmonie, as well as playing bari sax with the Big Band.
I have just returned from Austria, where I attended the IMPULS International Ensemble- and Composers-Academy for Contemporary Music in Graz, where I played concerts of contemporary chamber music, premiered 3 pieces as part of the MELE (Motion Enabled Live Electronics) program, played the solo bass clarinet piece Francisco Castillo Trigueros wrote for me, "Monólogo Fantástico", and played an improv concert with Jessie Marino (cello), Stephen Menotti (trombone) and dotcom[plot] (electronics) in Vienna.

--- Sonido 13, myself playing bass clarinet and live electronic processing, together with saxophonist Harry Cherrin other featured guests, we play electro-acoustic improvisations and composed contemporary music.

--- The Magic Lantern Show Orchestra, consisting of jazz trumpeter Dolan Jones, pianist Spyros Manesis, guitarist Enrique Ramirez, bassist Joao Hasselberg, drummer Rui Pereira, and myself, are improvising a soundtrack to the 1929 Russian silent film "New Babylon". After a few successful gigs at the end of last season, we are currently planning our next film and possible tours.

--- Payazen is my new klezmer project. I'm playing clarinet, Dolan Jones on violin, Aner Paker on double bass, and Adam Jeffrey playing percussion. We've just finished our 3 week busking tour of Italy this summer, have played a couple more gigs upon returning to Amsterdam, and are planning future events.

I AM LOOKING FOR COMPOSERS TO WRITE NEW PIECES, OR WHO HAVE EXISTING PIECES, FOR BASS CLARINET (or clarinet) WITH LIVE ELECTRONICS TO PERFORM!
I run a PC with nearly all major software, including MAX/MSP, Ableton Live, Cubase, Sonar/Cakewalk, Reason, Fruity Loops, Acid, and others, bunches of plug-ins, an M-Audio 1814 interface, a Behringer FCB1010 MIDI foot controller, and other fun things. Send me a message and we'll talk.
