About me: Hi there! Nerp was born some time in October 2003 with cerebellar hypoplasia, a rare disorder that causes a mother cat to abandon her baby. It affects the lower part of his brain, mostly responsible for muscle control. So he can't really walk, and he has trouble eating by himself. The harder he tries to stay still, the more he "weebles."
At about four months old, Nerp began to have seizures and was diagnosed with epilepsy, which was only brought under control with 60 milligrams of phenobarbitol a day, twice as much as that normally prescribed for a full grown human.
A few weeks later he developed a rare condition in which his glands swelled to the size of small grapes, and was given antibiotics, to which he proved allergic. He developed sores on his skin and began to lose fur. Later, probably as a result of his difficulties in getting to the litter pan, he developed feline lower urinary tract disease. No doubt he used many of his nine lives by the time he was six months old.
Through it all he remained a happy, feisty cat, and was super fun to be around. He loves his humans and takes care of us when we're sad or under the weather, and he's always up for a good game of soccer (he's quite good - playing on his side, that is!) or to enjoy a string.
His story has been published in Cat Fancy (the April 2006 edition) and our goal is to get him onto the Tonight Show!
Isis is his pal. She was born in 2007, and is a little too-abled. She is a DAT (A dog in cat's clothing). She fetches, knows how to open doors, is fascinated by water, follows you up and down the halls, and even goes for walks (on a harness)!
Who I'd like to meet: Other cats, other pet owners, friends!
