"The Nerve Meter" is a book of mad genius ramblings by Antonin Artaud, circa 1925. He was a French poet/actor/addict and writer of "The Theatre and Its Double" and "Fragments of a Diary from Hell," among others. The Nerve Meter is also a band from San Diego, CA.
Will A. Lerner and Elliott Rosen started collaborating when they were both in Portland, OR in 2005.
Will had been writing songs and performing under the name Nerve Meter for several years at that
point, most notably as a San Francisco-based trio issuing the European release "Poison Pen" in
2002. That band performed constantly in the Bay Area, and featured Anthony Koutsos (Red House
Painters, Sun Kil Moon) on drums, and fretless bassist Trevel Beshore. Around this time Elliott was
playing in the Portland-based post-punk band Truckless.
In 2007 Elliott and Will moved to San Diego. They quickly began working with producer Bort Schrader,
writing and arranging the songs they'd eventually be playing with the rhythm section of Tim Bolkcom
and Dani Hill. Tim is a New York transplant and budding music producer, and Dani is the singer/guitarist
for the Stonesy band Duchess. The four musicians reconnected with Bort to record a demo in the winter
of 2008. In summer of that year they started playing shows throughout the San Diego area. Will also plays keyboards with the San Diego band AM Vibe.
