Generalbicycles, munching salt and vinegar crisps, riding fixies, playing bike polo, reading story books, watching birds make nests in rivers, swimming in open water, libraries, dandilion and burdock, falafel, singing at the top of my voice and scaring farmers with my screeechy voice when i'm cycling round country lanes, critical mass, riding for days with a tent and a sleeping bag and not much else, doing crap and shoddy bike mechanics, dinosaurs, 23, walking through forests to waterfalls, working in the disease otherwise known as The Basement:our manchester social centre, being an unashamed vegan, chomping on fresh vegetables, letting chidren give me stoopid haircuts, pirates, dancing at gigs even though noone else will dance, dancing to disco in fields in the middle of nowhere, djing really badly on purpose in random pubs with my mate robin, making useful stuff outta rubbish, free parties, squatting derelict buildings and using them as social centres or party places, riding my bike really fast through mazes of traffic, riding my bike down hills of green, flying through forests on a bicycle, being outside, climbing to the tops of hills and mountains, getting drunk and disorderly with my friends, growing food and eating it, planting seeds and them growing into plants, talking on the phone for hours, getting lost in the internet for hours and hours, wearing baggy trousers, i have big hands, big feet, a loud mouth and a big grin.
Musicthe soundtrack to Belleville rendez vous... and i like to "sing" big band tunes loudly whilst riding as fast as i can up and down country lanes... i have complete admiration for anyone that can make music sound good (rather than my own bad attempts)..i saw a band the other day who played music that was like food for my soul, made me cry and laugh at the same time. beautiful.

About me:

CLICK TO GO TO I Bike MCR

"I like too many things and get all confused and hung-up running from one falling star to another till I drop. This is the night, what it does to you. I had nothing to offer anybody except my own confusion."

"Jacques Anquetil, five-time winner of the Tour de France, used to take his water bottle out of it’s holder before every climb and stick it in the back pocket of his jersey. Ab Geldermans, his Dutch lieutenant, watched him do that for years, until finally he couldn’t stand it any more and asked him why. And Anquetil explained. A rider, said Anquetil, is made up of two parts, a person and a bike. The bike, of course, is the instrument the person uses to go faster, but its weight also slows him down. That really counts when the going gets tough, and in climbing the thing is to make sure the bike is as light as possible. A good way to do that is: take the bidon out of its holder. So, at the start of every climb, Anquetil moved his water bottle from its holder to his back pocket. Clear enough."

"If an alien was to hover a few hundred yards above the planet It could be forgiven for thinking That cars were the dominant life-form, And that human beings were a kind of ambulatory fuel cell: Injected when the car wished to move off, And ejected when they were spent."

"MORE than twice the number in the death-camps, A hundred and thirty times the kill at Hiroshima, Eight times the count in Korea, Two hundred and thirty Vietnams, Eight thousand five hundred Ulsters . . . The Hundred Years War in a week; The Crusades in under thirty seconds. A Black Death with bubonic rats on wheels, A quarter of a million ‘auto-fatalities’ a year― The humdrum holocaust― The fast-food―junk-death―road-show."

"IN a riot, or a revolution, It’s curious that cars― Anyone’s cars― Are always the first to go."

"This is because I really, very sincerely, do not want to be killed in a traffic accident. Such a banal way to go, so tediously modern. Better to die at your desk. Better to fall off a cliff. Better to be lost at sea. Better, even, to be slaughtered, like the machine-gunner, in a hail of bullets on some foreign field. I would also like, while I'm alive, to be free to enjoy my harmless, pollution-free, environmentally responsible means of transport in safety. I would like to be free to breathe air unfouled by exhaust, to gaze at the city's many beautiful statues. And free not to have to irritate you, dear motorist, by repeatedly pointing out these self-evident truths."

"Car accident statistics indicate that at least four people involved in car accidents die every hour. These accidents could be due to the fault of the driver, the other driver, or due to a faulty vehicle. The important thing to consider is the number of deaths occurring every day, excluding the people involved in car accidents and sustaining severe personal injuries"

"'At least 20 cars ran over a 12-year-old-girl as she sought help for her dying father after a motorway crash, police said yesterday. A motorist finally called the police, who found the girl's remains spread over 50 yards.'" The Guardian, Manchester: 16/11/1998

"So mechanical man in triumph seated upon the seat of his machine will be driven mad from within himself, and sightless, and on that day the machines will turn to run into one another traffic will tangle up in a long-drawn-out crash of collision and engines will rush at the solid houses, the edifice of our life will rock in the shock of the mad machine, and the house will come down."

You can look at my bike (click here!)

I actively work to promote cycling in manchester in a variety of ways, from working with schools to help them encourage pupils to cycle to school to organising bike festivals, such as the annual I Bike MCR Festival.

I see bikes not only as an amazingly environmentally friendly way to travel but also as the key to happiness and revolution! A bike allows us to experience the world and each other, a feeling that we feel so cut off from when we travel by car or bus.

On average drivers currently spend around 6 working weeks a year traveling by car, it's a long time to be cooped up in a metal box. Cycling is so much fun and every journey is an adventure...

it allows us to look at the world with fresh eyes and wild excitement...

Who I'd like to meet:
vegan chefs that want to cook me nice food

someone that wants to build tall bikes with me, and help me not die when welding

someone to ride my bike with

people that like to read

people who can think of nothing better than riding by rivers in the sunshine and jump in them from time to time then clamber back on their bike for more riding..then stop to eat a vegan picnic..then ride up a mountain to look out over a beautiful ocean before riding back down (not too fast) and at the bottom soaking weary legs in the ocean and reading for a while with a bottle of red wine or a cold beer or both..then tinkering around with bikes in the evening..watching the sun go down and getting ready to camp under a blanket of stars..to be woken in the morning by the sunrise and the sound of waves lapping on the shore...

Golden Lab presents:

Manchester Zap!

Starring:
Part Wild Horses Mane On Both Sides + Gnod + Former Bullies + Hathor Duo + A Middle Sex + Kalbakken + Serfs + Irma Vep + Cryptic Salve + Bess Keloid + Waiters + Brown Brogues

Next Saturday sees the collective unveiling of some of the city's most individual freaks under the banner of Manchester Zap! Just really, really fucking real guitar maiming, songwriting and improvisation that scrapes your essence against the ceiling and sends electrical currents shooting up your neck.

Former Bullies, Brown Brogues and Waiters - same ilk, totally different slants. Songs as perfect as if they were still wrapped in cellophane but delivered from the depths of a sludgy mire of reverb. A Middle Sex and Part Wild Horses Mane on Both Sides - gangster-leaning leisurely towards an insane vibe and not giving a fuck if they take a while to find it because getting there is the best part, listen to the space!! Gnod - traversing the Mancunian Way but under such an influence of ket that they think it's a cosmic spaceway. Zoom! Irma Vep - best thing to come out of the city in years. Just perfect. Songs that sound like jams and jams that sound like songs. So much restraint, you wanna sob like a little girl who's lost her My Little Pony. Bess Keloid - ultimate weirdo performance art savant sound experimentor. Totally owns himself. Upstaged a Usurper performance by farting over the top of it. One of the best and most honest there is, no doubting

"When a driver's accelerator foot gets itchy, no one suffers more than a cyclist.  Bikes and pedestrians are equally defenseless against two and half tons of pot metal, but pedestrians have an enormous advantage because they look helpless when caught in the crosshairs, and send visions of jail and bankruptcy dancing in drivers' minds.  But a bike moves fast enough that, to a driver, it doesn't seem defenseless.  Throw in the fact that bikes are trying to squeeze through the same choked, badly designed system of roads as cars, and drivers don't see defenseless, they see competition."

Hey bikelordess. thanks for the french postcard...looked well pretty. Hope it was fun. Look my boss made a silly story outta my trip to England.

i know you have seen this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vn29DvMITu4

but its still making me laff. So the fixie thing is taking hold here like a rash of hypsteria!! I think its good tho since i will probably be helping run a workshop when they finally get the shop going. And people who havent ridden for years are starting and will most likely move onto other bikes and other sorts of riding and need their cars less.

Take care Nes
