Depressed but dealing with plans of depreciating the harsh reality of the Northwest not being known for “making it hot”. With the acceptance of legends like Jimi Hendrix, Quincy Jones & Kurt Cobain sharing the same backyard & star quality, you can’t help but notice that it’s Johnni Boy’s time to shine.
Calling Tacoma, Washington, better known as the city of destiny home, you can say Johnni Boy is destiny’s child. Born to a smooth talking playboy & an easy on the eye material girl in the 80’s, made him a ladies man by nature, so young Johnni Boy initially favored the sexy stylings & vulnerability of the Motown sound & artists like Michael Jackson & Stevie Wonder opposing to the bravado of Hip Hop artists. Then after hearing Slick Rick’s timeless classic “A Children’s Story,” & LL Cool J’s “I Need Love”, Johnni Boy grew an appreciation for the inventive capabilities of hip-hop and began discovering capabilities of his own. Exploring his writing skills and creating his own distinctive style, Johnni Boy the artist was conceived and a new sound of smooth soul and progressive postulations would be inducted into music.
After a mixtape he snuck into the DJ booth gained massive acclaim and high demand, Johnni Boy made a decision to dedicate himself to his true love and make music his hustle. In 2002, with an entrepreneur intuition that the Northwest could become a thriving entertainment capital, Johnni Boy established Neumoney Music and provided a company where artists could develop their style and experience diversity with a company that recognizes distinctive and "neu" music. He would also develop a full service media company that would become the new powerhouse of music, marketing and fashion – hence Neumoney & Co.
In 2005, Johnni Boy released “Neumoney or No Money,” which was followed by the very successful 2007 “I Smell Money” mixtape. Since then, Johnni Boy has secured performances alongside hip hop’s greatest including E-40, Ying Yang Twins, Tyga, Dolla, Yung Berg, Huey, Mims, Rich Boy and The Pack to name a few. The largest accomplishment came when Russell Simmons sought out Johnni Boy for his “smooth and laid back sound” and “great recording voice.”
So motivated by the authenticity of R&B and inspired by the lyrical creativity of true hip-hop, Johnni Boy is a unique collaboration of the best of both worlds bringing to the music scene positive interpretations of a real life phenomenon. Making him more than an artist building Neumoney into more than just music. Johnni Boy is a performer, a writer, an entrepreneur and the next mogul of this generation. Neumoney is a representation of a people, a sound, a movement that represents the struggle and celebrates the viable possibility to turn nothing into something.
