Neutron Café Summary: This all female hard rock heavy metal band has created a masterpiece demo of two solid songs, that have impressive lead vocals and dazzling monster guitar riffs with high speed drum beats. The first song "Sphinx" brings out the best from powerful lead vocalist & guitarist Angelique, whose vocal style reminds me very much of Courtney Love. "Trauma" is heavy hard hitting tune with intense vocals, unique lyrics and excellent musicianship. This band is definitely original and in a class by itself. The Tape is available at all Tower Records.

Neutron Cafe Date received: June 10, 1995 From the wilds of Long Island come three hard-rockin' chicks with "power drums, big funky grooves and dark haunting melodies." They also claim to have a "very bizarre sense of humor," which I guess is reflected in their self-description, "music for your pancreas." Hey, that's wacky! Anyway, these two meaty rockers were included on The Photon Power Disc, a CD compilation released in Fall 1994 by Photon Records. I just know Beavis & Butthead would dig these girls big-time.

Neutron Cafe would fit nicely between most videos played on MTV today with it's strong guitar presence and post grunge sensibilities. Bordering somewhere between late eighties metal yet with a more modern approach to guitar chord progression, Neutron Cafe are struggling to break new ground in an area of modern rock. Neutron Cafe "Now Serving" [Photon Records] By Gerry Saracco
I've plugged Neutron Cafe in a previous issue, when I reviewed a 3 song sampler tape they sent me. Needless to say that I loved it, and after some cajoling, got a cd out of them. Although the cd came out before I ever heard of them, I'd still stack it up to some of the stuff I get as I type this. Neutron Cafe is a three piece that know how to rock! My friend Petra, from the band Scrub commented that they sounded like "Black Sabbath meets Veruca Salt" which isn't far from the mark. Starting with the fast paced Tails You Lose, you get an idea of the way this band rocks. Then they kick back on Growing Season, jamming on some slow grooves. They then kick it in again with Dance or Die, which has a nice, heavy bass line. Get my drift so far? I totally dig Angelique's vocals. She has this great melodic voice, and at times she sounds seductive, other times playful, angry or depressed. She never goes too high, preferring to stay in mid-range [which sounds just fine to me]. The bass lines totally groove, and the drumming is excellant. Did I happen to mention that they are an all female band? My favorite tracks are Sphinx, which is slow, and has a slight doomy feel, Growing Season [another slow tune], Dance or Die [a cool uptempo track], and my all time fave is C'est La Vie, a depressing little number I can easily relate to. I heartily reccomend this cd to anyone. Of course, I've heard some of the new stuff live, as well as at one of their rehearsals, and while this stuff rocks, their next cd should be even better. This is a hard working band that I hope will make it in the future, as I feel they can do so much more. Definitely one of the better bands in the NYC/LI hard music scene.

Neutron Café : Now Serving (CD)
Na het beluisteren van dit schijfje ontdek je pas echt wat girl power is! Drie dames serveren dit elf-gangen-menu: rauw en agressief. Eet smakelijk! De gehele CD weet Neutron Café wat rocken is. Gitariste Angelique speelt rockende loopjes. Debbie plukt aan haar bas. Drumster G roffelt alle gaatjes dicht, ze is de drijvende kracht achter deze band. De schijf begint met het 'Tails you Lose', misschien wel het beste nummer op Now Serving. Hierna wordt deze trend voortgezet, luister maar eens naar 'Hota' (met vervormde stem en tempowisseling), het stevige 'No Dogs' of 'Growing Season'. Een pluspuntje is dat de stem van gitariste Angelique ook nog goed te verteren is. Dit alles maakt Now Serving agressief maar vooral origineel. Een overtuigend debuut met een eigen geluid.
