About me: This page is to unite atheists, agnostics, free-thinkers, skeptics, and humanists in Nevada and all over the world. Also, theists/people with opposing opinions are more than welcome to see what this is about. I will NOT censor anyone for having an opposing opinion.
People who support this page don't hate religious people. We don't want to kill religious people with opposing opinions (that's the RELIGIOUS way of acting), we simply believe that religion is an irrational and delusional way of thinking that has dominated society. We aren't trying to take away your right to believe, we simply want to question your beliefs. We believe that an outdated superstition has taken over in such an extreme way, and is imposing it's rights on the non-religious.
"But who cares if they believe in silly things? Why can't you just leave them alone and whatever makes them happy makes, them happy?"
We generally agree with that to an extent. The problem is, when it's socially acceptable to believe crazy things and justify it with their God, then they commit atrocious things. Obviously, not all Christians are radicals, but the automatic sense of respecting and not questioning people's faith is a gateway to tons of societal irrationalities: opposing civil rights of others (gays and, long ago, slaves), trying to sue people for teaching real science, censorship, intolerance of other's opinions, and so on. When you say that a creationist should just believe what makes them feel good and I shouldn't care about it, more creationists organize and try to write legislation against everything opposing their particular book. I can't stand to see society be crushed by such outdated irrational nonsense that somehow demands our respect.
We are here to call their bullshit.
Atheist discrimination, why we care and speak up:
Who I'd like to meet: ALL atheists, agnostics, free-thinkers, skeptics, and humanists in Nevada and everywhere else.
Richard Dawkins: "The Root Of All Evil?" pt 1+2
It's Halloween, the moon is full and bright. Minions see what can't be seen, on any other night. Skeletons in the closets of Christian ghouls, grinning fundamentalists and freethinkers fighting duels. The ghost of the dark ages is rising from its tomb, bringing relics from the past, intelligence it wants to consume. In white shirts and mountain bikes, Mormons haunt the street. They knock on doors, to trick is their treat. Others claim to be sent by Jehovah, entering unhallowed grounds is their mistake. They run away screaming, dropping their copies of Watchtower and Awake! Many feel threatened that we only need science, logic and reason to appease us. They can't accept our denial of the existence of their Jesus. So on my night, we should show them that they're absurd. Since they believe in ghosts and goblins, make your voice heard. Dress up like a demon, and put on your most evil behavior. Knock on their door, and tell them that you're their savior.
The LABYRINTH will be open early on Saturday, Oct. 31st from 1pm to 5pm and from 6pm to 9pm. It's a great thing to do after the parade. Only 3 nights left!!! That's right only 3 nights until the end of this Haunted Halloween season. Hope to see ya one of those nights!!
For
those interested in animal rights/welfare fiction, please have a look to my
novel “The Demon’s Trial”. The process of writing it is what made me a vegan,
by the way.
Hey NV atheists/free-thinkers, hope you're having a great day! Say, do you believe in God? If so, do you think it comes with a tangible science we can hope to understand one day, or should it remain a mystical concept? Also, how do feel about the odds of making contact with another intelligent species in the universe?
I posted this as a blog entry and thought it would be appropriate here:
What Kyle Weiss is giving up for lent...
...oh wait, "god," is lame. I don't have to give up anything. Nothing. That means my life goes on just like it always has: god-free and AWESOME. I also have Sundays off. Why? No god. If there were such thing as "straightedge," involving god, that'd be me baby, except instead of X's (too much like crosses) they'd be just circles, right on top of my hands in permanent marker.
I also have extremely low levels of guilt, fear, and self-indulging religious pride. Why? You guessed it, no god. I get to disagree with people, cultures and beliefs because of logic rather than tradition and religious cliques. How come? That's right, yet again, it's because of no god! I get to hold onto more money, more time and have more hobbies all because of the glorious nature of no god! What an economical choice in these hard times. My reading and music are far more full of choices, I have a sense of humor, I can accept anyone's choices in life that don't affect me, eat and mix food all day long, cheer at men in dresses, talk to women who can show their faces, and dance naked around a fire...
...it makes me wonder what everyone else gave up for lent or any other "sacrificing," self-serving hey-look-how-dedicated-I-am religious rite...
...on second thought, I really did give up something. What a sacrifice! What power! What immaculate symbolism!
So come, let's go hang out on a Sunday, all day... one extra enjoyable day of freedom in an already short life.
