never an "anything" is a Seattle-based band made up of three members. Their sound can be described simply as electronic music, with a variety of alternative rock influences.
Having been raised on the roots of rock, the youngsters were nurtured throughout their childhood on the classics of the late 60s. Prior to the present and permanent formation of the trio in 2001, the three had experimented in various projects. With the alternative-grunge scene of the 90s, they found a connection with the emotional outcry; the energetic youthful angst. Rock became a foundation for structuring the frame of their sound. However, some limitations were reached; they began the search for new, unique varieties. Cautiously moving into electronics, they began to merge contrasting forms, tip-toeing around each to maintain distinctive qualities. Their ears evolved as they entered into a technological realm, coming to know and utilize the versatility of electronics.
The style is based around the tonal qualities, delicate arrangements, and song-writing, offering expected surprises. The moods come across energetic but tranquil, uplifting while somber. Carefully crafted dynamics, underlying eclectic melodies, bring together a kind, but gritty blend of acoustics represented naturally with altercations of outboard electronics. A vital aspect of the instrumentation, the lyrical content presents itself poetically disguised, while maintaining a level of honesty and elements of dreamy imagery.
As they continued to carve-out their niche, songs were written and discarded. This accelerated their development and led to the self-production of several 5-track demos, created under previous identities, from 2002 to 2005. With this previous repertoire of songs, the band performed several live shows over the summer of 2006 at venues such as Chop Suey, the Comet, and the Crocodile Cafe.
This current full-length recording may have come about as a result of that process. Throughout the winter of 2006-07, never an "anything" recorded their 10-track album at Clear Audio Studios in the Georgetown neighborhood. With the assistance of Cathy Ferrante at Avast Studios, the final mastering was completed, making way for 'a child's isle.'
