When it comes to pay tribute to a band that is almost a myth in music, one has to be very carefull... And if that band is also called Marillion, then we are probably a bunch of nutters, to dare confront ourselves with these professional musicians, who'd been in the music business for almost 30 years ! Well we probably are mad, but only about their music, and that's the reason why in October 2006, we decided to embark on this journey, which led to ... Neverland !
We wanted to be different from other tribute bands (which in Rome are quite common, since we count another three bands who play Marillion in our city : Bittersuite, Icon and Jester's Song): we didn't want to look to much in the past of the band, and wanted to present their newest material to the audiences, since Marbles had just been praised so much by a lot of people (fans and not) as their ultimate masterpiece. That's why our set list counts an 80 % of songs from the Hogarth era, and some classics from the Fish era. Of course for me, the singer, it would'd been wiser to chose something more approachable, but i loved the challenge to sing Hoggy's songs, and some of them I really feel as my own personal storys.
The name, came after an accurate selection of possible contenders :
1) The Anoraks
2) The Accidental Band
3) Neverland
4) Marbles
...it was my wife who suggested Neverland as a possible name for the band, and she got it right from the start. Neverland has a lot of meaning in terms of mystic and magic, and was also the title of one of the greatest songs Marillion had ever made. So Neverland it became...!
Rehearsals began in November 2006, at a studio in Ostia Antica, which led us to our first performance in March 2007 at the Acquofono club in Fiumicino... We were very nervous that night, and some 80 people showed to give us their support. Althought we made some mistakes, the evening was really magic, and our band really took it's own shape.
Since then , we played 7 gigs... (none of them were sold out (lol :-))including a Fan Club event which gave us the opportunity to play with Mr. Pete Trewavas himself on QUARTZ !! (If you don't believe this don't worry...we still think of it as it where only a dream)
We would like to take the opportunity to thank all the people who helped us during this journey : all our friends & families that gave us support through the process of rehearsal and performance...And last but not least, we want to thank all the people who passed by on this page, leaving a comment, sending a message,listening to our rendition of the songs or just reading these nonsence I'm writing... Thank you...Thank you, whoever you are !
