Profile: Never Sed
Never Sed was formed on Bonfire Night 2004 when a chance meeting with a much needed lead guitarist turned into an amazing jamming session. It was at this point that the band realised they had found the missing piece of the puzzle…something special to unleash upon the world.
Since that fated night, Josh Hindley (lead vocals/rhythm guitar/lyrics), Nick Pinchbeck (lead guitar), Chris Hunsley (bass/backing vocals) and Chaz Cade (drums) have gone from strength to strength with scores of gigs and three EPs under their belts.
The Scunthorpe-based quad describe their sound as ‘blunge’ – a mix of indie, blues, funk and grunge, their songs ranging from fast-paced and energetic to calm and mellow.
Grunge-blues hybrid vocals, mean guitar riffs, full-on power chords, thumping beats and funky bass give Never Sed tracks universal appeal. Varying from gritty to upbeat, their lyrics are drawn from the thoughts, feelings and experiences of themselves and those around them taking inspiration from everyone and everything.
Songs like Dirty Sexy and Farside ooze Lynyrd Skynyrd style raw, bluesy undertones while Yesterday proves they can do the gentle, acoustic thing. They show they have a sense of humour with tongue-in-cheek tracks The Fishing Gnome and Jesus Was a Jedi…ditties like these sticks two fingers up to the oh-so-serious rock bands who daren’t crack a smile for fear of losing their cool.
Heavy rock anthems like Damage and Never Sed keep the crowds pumped up and hungry for more. No two gigs are ever the same as they pack each performance with high energy and a whole lot of heart and soul thus earning them a loyal following.
After supporting some relatively unknown bands, Never Sed struck it lucky when they were given the opportunity to support grandfathers of rock Status Quo at Trentham Park, Stoke-on-Trent in front of over 3000 people. The thirty minutes they had to impress the audience proved successful as they gained many new fans who have left positive feedback in their online guestbook. Now they headline their own gigs, most recently at Lincoln’s Theatre Royal. All this before they’ve even reached the age of eighteen.
As they embark on a rollercoaster ride of a lifetime, they call on us to join them on their incredible journey. With rumours of interest from at least one record company, there’s every possibility we will be hearing one of their anthems blasting from the radio in the not too distant future.
