SEASON 16:
newEar celebrates its sixteenth season of challenging and innovative music-making with Crossings, a series of concerts that explores all manner of encounters, intersections, collisions, crossplay and merging of disparate elements. Whether it is in the variety of ways that some composers have engaged with a challenging new stylistic movement, the influence of the geographical crossroads of Kansas City, the exploration of acoustic space, or an account of how one composer confronted and transformed all of the music that he encountered over a long and productive career, this season promises to be one of our most exciting ever and one you won’t want to miss.
What is newEar?
newEar, now in its 16th Season, is a professional music ensemble featuring the music of today's composers.
newEar's music can be difficult to classify because composers write in ALL styles -- from a traditional piano trio to a work for solo instrument and electronics. newEar concerts often feature a visual or cross-cultural element that blurs the boundaries of classical, rock, jazz, world music and the avant-garde. Other artistic disciplines are often part of newEar performances -- you may see dance, visual arts or theatre in the mix.
We invite you to attend a newEar concert! You will see and hear a handful of highly trained musicians interpreting music, most written within the last 10 years—and frequently performed in public for the very first time EVER.
