New Animal is an Alternative, Rock, Metal Group from Cortland, NY (Central New York Region). The band is a 3-piece consisting of Jonah Dalfonso, Loren Leonard and drummer Jason Trabucco. New Animal has been likened to artists such as A Perfect Circle, Chevelle, Stained and Breaking Benjamin.
The group was formed in the winter of 2006. Loren, formerly of bands such as Obstreperous, Gypsy Funkstone, When Eggs Collide and Special Unit 2 hadn't played in nearly two years after his last band, Special Unit 2 had disbanded. Discouraged and looking for a new music venture Loren ran into Jonah, a young friend of former SU2 drummer Jason Belknap at open mic night at the Blue Frog coffee house.
Jonah was pursuing becoming a solo, acoustic artist after his former band Throwing Shadows had called it quits. Loren flagged Jonah down as the open mic night was drawing to a close and they chatted in the parking lot for well over an hour, talking about music influences and interests. Their interests were eerily similar. Loren promised he would set something up with other potential band members, in particular a drummer.
Enter Jason Trabucco (T-Bone), the rock-solid drummer from such bands as Ultraphli, Little Buddha’s Ball and Chain and Underworld Roots. Jason and Loren had been running into each other at the Cortland Fitness Center every now and then and music was always the subject of choice. Jason was in the same situation as Loren, he hadn't played for a couple years and he was itching to make some noise again. Loren mentioned he was working with Jonah to put a band together and asked if he might be interested. Jason was interested but was won over after he heard Jonah's recorded solo songs. Like Loren, he heard nothing but potential.
Fast forward a couple months, now the trio was set and armed with a small arsenal of Jonah's songs which had been converted from solo acoustic songs to big rock songs and the band was slowly writing some new material as well. Currently, more recording sessions and live shows are being scheduled look for New Animal at venue near you.
Despite their contentment as a 3-piece the band has not ruled out adding additional members if the right person/people come along.
