"New Archetypes? It's a little wordy, but so was Rage Against The Machine" --Tom Morello
"New archetypes are born from mutations of existing ones. This is following the ‘Prime Directive’ as specified in the Genesis of the Torah as ‘Copulate and Multiply’." --Max Sandor
"...Sydney's loosest lucid psychedelic psychopathic rock n roll meltdown." --Rockin' The Random
LONGTIME friends Screamin' E. Hernia and Karl Richard-Marx formed New Archetypes in 2006 with the intention of injecting the former’s gutter poetry into the local music scene by delivering a king dose of trashy garage rock straight to the mainline. In a rehearsal room above a smash repair joint in Redfern, they hammered away at their craft, throwing in covers by The Stooges (which they ritually perform at every show), The Beasts of Bourbon and The Birthday Party, Karl accompanying variously on guitar, bass and a horrific optical theremin shaped like a baby’s head with red glowing eyes. Hernia's raspy screams were terrifying.
Richard-Marx soon recruited his brother Hans Regretel, who has played bass in many bands over the years, The Naked Drewth (drums), who had never played before but now holds his own behind the kit, and Ted Frost on keys and guitar. Ted is a bit of an eccentric wizard – he may have once played pipe organ recitals at the Sydney Town Hall, yet in New Archetypes he wages war against music itself, devoting himself completely to sonic anarchy and creating confusion (…for all involved).
At the first rehearsal with the full line-up, chaos reigned. The formula was written. New Archetypes were complete. The trash was in the can.
The first public New Archetypes gig took place January 5, 2007, at the Lansdowne Hotel and was cut short after just two songs due to the band’s trademark “unpredictability”. They were compensated by the venue with free beer for the rest of the night, and have never looked back.
New Archetypes can mostly be found performing and stumbling around the Rockenmore area (that’s Enmore with some graffiti added – wink, wink) and inner west of Sydney. They can be identified by their distinctive war-cry: “Play some fuckin’ Stooges.”
New Archetypes have shared bills with the likes of Cherry 2000, Maxwell Stone, Feed The Horse, Snout Cassette, The Follow, Blush Foundation, Leprechaun Deathstar, Dirt Track Demons, White Knuckle Fever, Buggirl, Dead Inside The Chrysalis, 1 Shot Kill, Crackwhore, Spaceticket, Lexlucian (UK), Mz Ann Thropik, Dead By Dawn, Hope In A Slingshot, Thundabox, Buzzkiller, Grimm Love, pole dancers, go-go girls, body mutilators, and other misfits of society.
Copulate and multiply.
The revolution will be recorded on four-track, released on vinyl. Get your stamp at the door.
