NJP is, as the name suggests, a platform for musicians(instumentalists and vocalists)to get together and share ideas whilst jamming. It's the perfect opportunity to network with other musicians, both locally and from around Berkshire; to try out new things and to gain experience of performing in front of a receptive and supportive audience. The event takes place in the bar of Northcroft Leisure Centre in Newbury on the first Friday of every month. It is quite a structured evening, with opportunity for big jam numbers as well as more rehearsed pieces. It is run by a very supportive commitee who are always eager to hear new talent and introduce them to existing members. In the past, many of our members have met other musicians through the platform sessions and have gone on to form bands and start gigging professionally. We welcome musicians of all abilities and experience and encourage you to bring new ideas to the table. Whilst we work under the broad heading of 'Jazz Platform', we don't just mean 'Trad Jazz' or 'Standard Jazz', but also 'Acid Jazz', 'Nu Jazz', Neo Soul'...the list goes on. The evening kicks off at 7.30pm, although if you have equipment to set up, it is better to come a bit earlier (a full PA, Drum Kit and Keyboard are provided). The proceedings finish at 11pm, when the bar closes. For only £2 entry fee, it is a great evening of entertainment and learning, whether you're a beginner or just brushing up on your skills. We'd love to see you there.
