I am honored to support Spark in every way that I am able. The Sex Wine & Chocolate event is just one (of many) opportunities to frolick in the joy of knowing you can make a better life for many. I adore the fact that, so far...for the time being...a woman, or moreso **ANY PERSON** has the right to decide what is right in their own life, in their own world. Sadly, (and on an urgent note), this may change an any moment. Make a difference! Take a stand! Be the change you wish to see in the world! See yall on Oct 2nd ~ xoxo
Great job out there this week y'all! Many passersby have said, "Thank you" for your opposing presence... I can't believe they have their kidz doing this too... ...but annoying the grown-folkz is a fun point! ;>) ~ see you in the streetz tomorrow! SJ
March 10, 2008 National Day of Support of Abortion Providers http://www.refuseandresist.org/ab/index.html
On this day - Stand up with your abortion services providers and say: Thank you for your heroism, perserverance, courage, and commitment to women.
* Praise clinic staff and doctors with cards and letters of appreciation. Let them know they have your support and thanks. * Bring your local clinic staff flowers or a breakfast basket of fruit or muffins. * Organize local appreciation day events. * Organize with others to hold a March 10th dinner with area providers. * Step up to the front lines and be a volunteer clinic escort. * Ask your local provider how you can help. * Write your local newspaper, call talk shows to express support. * Take out ads in your newsletters and local newspapers. * Use your imagination, creativity and dedication to help create a climate at clinics where women, doctors and staff can hold their heads high without feeling shamed or fearing assault.
The National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers was initiated in 1996 and co-sponsored by many national organizations and individuals, as a way to help stop the isolation and create a positive climate for abortion providers across the country. March 10th is the anniversary of the assassination of Dr. David Gunn, the first provider murdered by an anti-abortion extremist. It is a day to remember and honor Dr. Gunn and others who have and continue to put their lives on the line daily to make choice possible. Without abortion providers, there can be no "choice." And without choice women cannot be free to live and plan their lives!
In the shadow of the first federal ban on an abortion procedure and the criminalization of doctors who perform this service for women in need, and with the subsequent federal subpoenas of patient records, it is especially important right now to let providers know we stand with them.
Today, the Center for Disease Control released results of an extensive study which reveals that 25% of female teens between the ages of 14-19 have a sexually transmitted disease. For those in not good with math or in denial, that is 1 in 4. This is not simply saying that 1 in 4 are sexually active, but 1 in 4 have contracted a disease. If 1 in 4 have been contaminated, wonder how many more are active but have escaped the odds of contracting disease? This is something which may or may not be something you wish to think about. Next time you go to pick up little Suzy and her debate team buds to taxi them to soccer practice or to the mall, recognize that 1 out of every 4 teen women have a sexually contracted disease!! That is HUGE! It is FACT! It is DOCUMENTED! Most young women have the idea that it will not happen to them. Most parents have the idea that their little girls are not "doing it". Most daughters have relationships with their parents that prohibit them comming forward (or comming home to their parents) for help when they become aware that there is a problem. That is yet another reason that Planned Parenthood is both important and necessary. It is my hope you will never be without medical insurance coverage & it is my hope that your sister, daughter or Mom may not be in need of services they cannot afford to obtain from their family practicioner or OB/GYN. The fact remains that many currently do and will continue to rely on the services offered by Planned Parenthood. Georgians for Choice (aka SPARK) works specifically in our state to keep our health and reproductive choices ours. Keep this in mind when offering your tax deductable donations. Thank You, Lisa
