MISSION & OBJECTIVE
NEWFILMMAKERS NY screens every Wednesday at Anthology Film Archives, one of the leading theaters in New York City. It is the longest running screening series in New York and one of the longest running ones in the nation. This unique series gives filmmakers the opportunity to screen their work for local audiences and to promote themselves to national distributors.
On August 2nd NewFilmmakers LA resumed its Los Angeles screenings and will program monthly screenings there this Winter. Filmmakers using Withoutabox can submit their work to either our New York or our Los Angeles Series or they can submit to both Series at no additional cost.
Anthology Film Archives is located at: 32 Second Avenue @ 2nd Avenue on the Lower East Side in New York. On Wednesday nights filmmakers are welcome to stop by and talk to us about the Series. Once you have completed your WAB Application, you can drop off your screener with us.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
IMPORTANT: NewFilmmakers screens every Wednesday night year round in New York City and monthly in Los Angeles. FESTIVAL DATES displayed on the Withoutabox listing are for expiration of this listing NOT the screening dates. We screen year round. We program on a quarterly basis so our notification dates are approximate ONLY. You may hear from us earlier. If you are not selected for the current season, your submission will be rolled over to the next season; you should not resubmit your work.
THE NEWFILMMAKERS SERIES began in 1998 at Anthology Film Archives as a local screening series. Over the past eight years NewFilmmakers has attracted national and international attention and has screened over 400 feature and 1400 shorts films. In 2000 NewFilmmakers brought the Havana Film Festival to New York, where it now is in its sixth year, and in 2002 we started NewFilmmakers Los Angeles. Many well known Shorts and Features have had their early screenings at NewFilmmakers; these include Blair Witch, Too Much Sleep, and Zero Day.
You can send your screener for NewFilmmakers NY or for NewFilmmakers LA to our New York Address (NewFilmmakers, PO Box 4956, New York, NY 10185). Withoutabox members can send duplicate screeners to our New York address for both cities at no additional cost (each city has its own screening committee, and until they are settled, we are forwarding Los Angeles material to them). We are looking for a theater is Los Angeles and will let submitters know when we start programming our Series there.
NewFilmmakers is associated with the monthly Harvard Independent Film Group (www.harvardfilmgroup.com) and the monthly Soho House Screening Series (www.angelikafilm.com/crimson_screen_soho.htm). These Festivals do not take submissions directly, but you can submit to both organizations through us; please note their submission policies and let us know if you are submitting to them on your screening copy.
ORGANIZERS:
Barney Oldfield (Founder) ; Bill Woods (New York Coordinator) ; Patrick Coleman Duncan (Los Angeles Coordinator)
GENERAL RULES
NewFilmmakers is designed to showcase innovative work by new filmmakers who may (or may not) have been overlooked by other festivals. For the most part this means first and second efforts by filmmakers in the short or feature categories. However, only you can determine whether you are a "new" filmmaker or not and all submissions are considered and welcome. Filmmakers must have a film they are proud to screen and promote at NewFilmmakers.

I saw a little girl, after being disciplined, stick her tongue out at her Dad & later said "I wasn't sticking my tongue out at you, I was trying to lick my face. "
