Sounds Like
These people are saying:
'Very far out'.. (D.C. Berman)
'Plain ol' new country-and-northern Anglo-Caithnesian song music (Seer Fanzeen)
'A class act.'- (Manchestermusic.co.uk)
'New Hawks are the front lines of creative music'- (Nancy Elizabeth, Off the Record)
'Darkened, but everso cute with it, rustic punk' (Vanity Project Fanzine).
'A clay toad crossing a sponge'. (Modelzone)
'Hebridean folk put through the cosmik mangler' (Throwaway Style)
New Hawks is an arching, tragi-cosmik song-cycle by Dan Haywood (formerly of "promising" alternative-rockers The Puma-Sutras, and creator of feeble period fantasy 'Dapple').
Wrote the thirty-one New Hawks (songs) in a month-long burst awhile back. It was a shocker.
Aided by a host of kind, talented musicians, including Therese Standish, Richard Turner, Jeff Jefferson, Mike Kenney and Billy Myall (rack)- New Hawks are now being brought to a venue near you and, scratching and screeching, into the stoooodio.
First record is Dan Haywood's New Hawks EP, (Timbreland via Forte Distribution) released October 2007.
Second record will be NEW HAWKS - the whole suite on 3CD/4LP , sometime 2009/2010.
Live and in person, the DH New Hawks ensemble is a phosphorescing beast of a band with lightning sheeting down its back. It eats ten open chords at a time and fires 2000 employees per second.
The DHNH act has opened for notables including The Handsome Family, Rachel Unthank and the Winterset, A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Baby Dee, Radar Bros., Diane Cluck, Alasdair Roberts and Mary Hampton and shared bills with many great artists too commercially-unsuccessful to mention.
2010 sees the 25th anniversary of Lancaster Musicians' Co-op! And to celebrate we want to make the co-op better than ever by improving facilities, providing more and better equipment for it's users and generally celebrating in a kick ass way! But the co-op needs YOUR help!

Grouper (US) has her latest – Dragging A Dead Deer Up A Hill – of three albums on Type Records. She has also been involved in collaborative releases, contributing a track to Xiu Xiu’s Remixed & Covered and four tracks to a split release with Inca Ore. Her other contemporaries are Belong, Growing, Tim Hecker, Windy & Carl and Atlas Sound.
Jasper TX (Sweden), with a hefty back-catalogue of releases on labels such as Miasmah, and collaborations with buddy Machinefabriek, is an essential domestic appliance in the household of conceptual music. He is comparable to artists Fennesz, Sigur Ros, Múm and Tape.
Intricate and atmospheric songsmith, Danny Saul (UK) performs with different combinations of musicians, making each gig a unique event. His forthcoming release is "Harsh, Final", and he also performs with Greg Haines as Liondialer.
Fieldhead (UK) music delights in tape hiss, bleak landscapes and decaying analogue loops. He is also a member of The Declining Winter and Glissando. His debut album, "They Shook Hands for Hours" is released soon on Home Assembly.
long time no hear Dan, about time you ventured North of the border again. Edinburgh could do with a dose of the hawks.. (Yikes, sounds medical) Looking forward to more releases real soon, eh? eh?
