Dave Kantor has played drums with the Roy Scott Big Band, Herb's Herd, Occasional Sax, South St Rhythm Section, and Rave. While attending Brandeis University in the early 1980's, Dave was a founding member of the Brandeis Jazz Ensemble, and also played French Horn in the Brandeis Symphony Orchestra and in chamber ensembles. Dave has an avid interest in jazz French Horn players such as Julius Watkins and David Amram.
Berklee-schooled bassist Bob Abruzese has been a fixture on the Boston music circuit since the early 90's. He brings a tasteful mix of jazz, blues, soul and funk to his playing. Bob has appeared with countless groups, including The Shirley Lewis Experience, Boston Baked Blues, and Amyl Justin, and has toured throughout the country and to Europe playing in clubs and festivals.
Randy Kravette played trumpet through high school and college with the Evergreen Three Plus Three traditional jazz band, with his father Stephen on piano and with his brother Sanford on clarinet. He studied with Peter Chapman at Boston Conservatory, and with Ray Crisara at University of Texas, Austin while working on his Master’s degree in music composition. In Austin he front-lined with Dave Perkoff’s original Little Big Band. After an extended break, Randy has most recently been attending master jazz classes at the Boston Jazz Workshop, and playing with New Jazz Echo.
"The reason I returned to Jazz was to participate. The Music presents such an amazing opportunity to listen deeply, and with good company, search carefully into the heart of the shared moment. "
Bryan Cetlin is a pianist who plays jazz and other musical styles ranging from classical to rock to new age. He is a graduate of the Berklee School of Music in Piano Performance, and a person of few words who lets his piano do the talking. Bryan’s song arrangements and his sensitive and multi-hued chord textures are a key part of the sound of New Jazz Echo. He is the father of up-and-coming violin sensation Daniel Cetlin, who occasionally sits in with the band.

New Jazz Echo is a quintet of trumpet, saxophone, piano, acoustic bass, and drums. Members have been playing together since 2003, and are experienced musicians with decades of experience.
Like an open-ended conversation between good friends (which we are), live jazz reflects life’s shifting moods and changing colors. Our goal is to create music that lifts our audiences’ spirits and gives more feeling to life. Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, Antonio Jobim, John Coltrane, and Miles Davis are just a few of the artists whose material we perform and who inspire us towards this goal.
A note about the song titles and samples: Never heard of "Someday My Rinse Will Foam?" Can you can guess what song it might be? We have chosen not to post copyrighted melodies with their titles, out of respect for Myspace copyright regs (even if these seem often to be honored in the breech). Chord changes are, however, not subject to copyright, and all improv is of course, our own. Enjoy.
"Everyone really enjoyed the evening and time and again people remarked how wonderful the band was... The event was so successful that we scheduled another for the Spring, again with New Jazz Echo as the center piece. And again, the event was a huge draw, many people had come before, but many new faces as well. And again, everyone had a great time. People really enjoyed the music. And I received a number of compliments even after the event, including from Temple Israels administration, that it was a wonderful event and the music was the wonderful heart of the program... I highly recommend booking New Jazz Echo when you have the opportunity."
